Lieberman has been out there in the media making the rounds, trying to sound like the expasperated parent who just doesn't know what to do about his wayward Democratic children!!
Joe says that we need to give the new commander and the new plan time to work, so a hard deadline to withdraw troops is bad.
You know what, Joe? You are not thinking this all the way through.
If the plan is working well, as you assert, and the surge is successful, then by March of 2008 everything in Iraq SHOULD be stable and there would be NO REASON NOT TO BRING THE TROOPS HOME AT THAT POINT.
If, on the other hand (aka reality), the surge is NOT working, then we gave Bush his last damned shot, do not pass go, do not collect $200, go directly to the ash heap of history, and WE'LL BE BRINGING OUR TROOPS HOME AND OUT OF PLAYING SHERIFF IN A CIVIL WAR.
So either, way, Joe -- THE DEADLINE MAKES SENSE.
Think about it, Joe. You'll see how right I am.
