Clinton promises to help Vilsack with campaign debt

Democratic presidential contender Hillary Rodham Clinton has agreed to help one-time candidate Tom Vilsack, who endorsed her on Monday, as he seeks to retire a campaign debt of more than $400,000.

Vilsack and his wife, Christie, endorsed Clinton in her bid for the Democratic nomination at an Iowa news conference on Monday. Daley said there was no connection between the fundraising and the endorsement.

The help for Vilsack comes as one of Clinton's top supporters in New Hampshire disputed reports of another promise in exchange for an endorsement. Bill Shaheen, in an interview with The Associated Press, said suggestions that he withheld his endorsement of Clinton until he was promised an ambassadorship were wrong.

"Did she promise (an ambassadorship)? No," Shaheen said. "That's not how I work. I don't think Senator Clinton is thinking that far down the road and I would be disappointed if she was."

It's not unusual to have campaign debt. IIRC, Clark did last time. I think Sharpton did too, don't know who paid his debt off. Pretty sure Kerry paid off Carol Mosley-Braun's. It appears to be how it's done.

And I'm still glad Dean didn't win because I think he would have been slaughtered. The country was not in an anti-war mood yet. I am glad he's the DNC chair though, and I wish more Dems would listen to him.

I haven't decided who I'm for this time. Nobody is as right on every issue as Kerry still is. I had hoped he, Gore, Feingold or Clark would get in. But no, not looking like it. ABH, at this point.

Senator Feingold was my first choice. Now, it's Hillary Rodham Clinton. I guess, we're on the opposite sides again...

9. Well here's my reasoning

Feingold was my first choice because of his excellent record on civil liberties issues. For example, he was the only Senator to vote against the patriot act. Looking at the current, there isn't anyone that really stands out in the civil liberties front. So, it's no hard to imagine of going from Feingold to HRC.

The Hillary/Vilsack thing is not at all that suspicious to me. They were both DLC leaders and Vilsack until he turned on a time to be anti-war had been pretty much with Hillary. They are long time "friends". I have often seen stories of politicians being at fundraisers to help retire campaign dept of others - if it's out in the open, it doesn't seem wrong. (and I am not a Clintons fan.)

Reminds me of Kerry's generous offer to Al Sharpton, which coincided with Sharpton's strange attack on Dean on the number of minorities on his gubernatorial staff.

Sharpton attacked Dean on his cabinet in Jan, the Kerry campaign began endorsement discussions with Sharpton in March.

I have heard that Republicans paid Sharpton - but never Kerry. I think Kerry had very little money at that point.
