I watched the movie Idiocracy with Luke Wilson and it was kinda dumb in a dumb way.
It says that the US population and world population will be dumbed down because the "upper class" intellectuals will have smaller families.
While the US and world population will continue to grow exponentially, this "doomsday" scenario is flawed.
Take a look at Europe, many countries there have Negative population growth.
The movie takes particular shots at the Hispanic population and its growth in the US. While this is accurate particularly in the south west, America is still a huge country, and while its difficult to control our borders and immigration like Europe, our secondary and university school systems are still the best in the world.
America will always need an immigrant class to do the low-wage labor that much of our domestic economy relies on, but to say that our education system and population will be overcome by stupidity is inaccurate. Particularly because our capitalist system will always allow for a few smart people to rise above.
What does everyone think?
