I had to vote other. I think the poll writer tried to capture all of the reasons. Mine just didn't make it.
I have no problem with a moderate Dem woman as president. Clinton makes me uncomfortable, so she wouldn't be my first choice. I think there are other women I'd rather see in that role. I would keep my eye on Pelosi (or would have if it didn't seem like she had caved on this War bill.)
However, I absolutely, positively cannot support an "Affirmative Action" presidential candidacy. I don't think one should vote for a woman just because she's a woman, especially if a man running against her is a stronger, more experienced candidate who is a better fit for one's values.
That's probably what I hate about this race right now. It seems very much an "Affirmative Action" race. Obama doesn't have much experience, but we're supposed to overlook this because he's a black man, and we don't get strong black candidates every day. Clinton has some "baggage" in her past, but we're supposed to overlook this because she's a woman, and we don't get strong female candidates every day.
Are we past 3 women candidates now? Chisholm, Dole, Clinton? Have there been more within the two primary parties? I'm not sure. However - and this is a sign that I tend to go for slow, steady progress - there will come a day when having a diverse set of candidates is common, and at that point, I think we'll end up with a woman as president. One of the reasons that this is important to me is that I want it to happen in such a way that if things go wrong, there is no "NEVER AGAIN" reaction. Right now, I can see that happening. Fifty years from now, I think things will be very, very different.
I wonder in my mind if we might end up seeing women begin to dominate politics. And I wonder what that might mean. Sadly, my thoughts on this matter are not good. Women are usually not handed anything until men are done with it; if we began to dominate Capitol Hill, it would probably mean that the true power center of our nation had shifted away from government.
At any rate, I'm an other. I want a woman to be president when I'm convinced that she was better than anyone else available. Or that everyone else was worse. But that's my criterion for any person. I don't plan to change my criteria just because a woman is running.
