Bush:"If Congress fails...to fund troops..., American people will know who to hold responsible"
Democrats will be blamed for delays in funds for troops, Bush says
Updated 1h 38m ago

By David Jackson, USA TODAY
http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/2007-03-28-bush-iraq_N.htm

WASHINGTON — President Bush, renewing a threat to veto any bill with a deadline for U.S. withdrawal from Iraq, suggested today that the American public would blame congressional Democrats if a political stalemate holds up funds for U.S. troops.

"Members of Congress need to stop making political statements and start providing vital funds for our troops," Bush said in Washington, and "get a bill to my desk that I can sign into law."

The Senate voted 50 to 48 on Tuesday to include in its $122 billion military spending bill a March 2008 timetable for pulling out most of the 141,000 U.S. forces from Iraq. The Senate was likely to pass the full bill Thursday.

<<snip>>

"The bottom line is this: The House and Senate bills have too much pork, too many conditions on our commanders and an artificial timetable for withdrawal," Bush told the National Cattlemen's Beef Association in Washington. "As I have made clear for weeks, if either version comes to my desk, I will veto it."

<<snip>>

"The clock is ticking for our troops in the field," Bush said. "If Congress fails to pass a bill to fund our troops on the front lines, the American people will know who to hold responsible."

6. Yes, Mr. Bush, you are correct. We WILL know who to blame.
And it will be YOU.

YOU will be the one vetoing the bill.

YOU will be the one cutting off money for the troops.

And by the way, we also know you lied to us about the need for this war, and those dead troops are your responsibility as well.

We will make sure you know this in 2008 when we vote the rest of your Motley Gang of Do-Nothing Hypocrital Bigots out of their seats, and throw your sorry ass in prison along with "The Big Dick" Cheney.

8. They must hang on to that 15% ignorant trash base who believes
his shit and will continue to pass it on. The bill has the money in it dumbass. Wow and to think Iraq didn't let inspectors in and I'll get to the bottom of who leaked Ms Plames name and Iraq has evil weapons.

It would be nice if the ignorant trash who support him grew a conscience and would be shamed into mass suicide.

11. The Dems need to get out in front of this thing.

Maybe they have to wait until the House/Senate reconciliation is complete and the bill is sent to Chucklenutz. Than they can say "we have sent a bi-partisan bill for funding the troops - if the pResidunce fails to sign it, we will know who is responsible for not funding the troops"

27. That's my thing: where are the rebuttals to the continued GOP
talking points on this?! The funding, the references to pork (as if it's the sole domain of the Dems) the whole banana? I hope they're waiting to pounce because so far all I've heard is crickets...

20. Veto = Bush not supporting the troops
If Bush vetoes the bill, it will be Bush who is denying funding for the troops. I'm surprised more Democrats aren't harping on this publicly. Democrats have agreed to fully fund the troops in the bill that was passed.

A Bush veto means Bush is denying the funding.

A veto means that it's Bush who's "not supporting the troops."

To the tune of 23 billion dollars. I just want to hear the Dems say it loud and proud, and point the finger at those who voted against it.
