Newsweek: e-mail to Rove may implicate him in firings

'Thanks for Everything'
Did Karl Rove have a hand in replacing the fired U.S. attorney in New Mexico? An overlooked e-mail may provide a clue.

March 28, 2007 - New Mexico Republican Sen. Pete Domenici’s chief of staff sent a cryptic thank-you note to Karl Rove just as the senator was recommending replacements for David Iglesias, the fired U.S. attorney in New Mexico, according to internal White House and Justice Department documents.

“Thanks for everything,” Domenici chief of staff Steve Bell wrote Rove and two other White House officials, including Rove’s political deputy, Scott Jennings, in a Jan. 8, 2007 e-mail that forwarded the name of a candidate to replace Iglesias.

2. Rove has publicly stated
On March 8, 2007, Rove told an audience that at least some of the attorneys had been fired for cause. Now, nearly three weeks later, as this matter doesn't just go away like so many matters have before, the public would like to know how the director of political dirty tricks in the White House knows so much about personnel matters in the Department of Justice.

I wonder what Karl did that comes under the e-mail's rubric of "everything" that Sen. Domenici's office is thanking him for?

4. Be careful what you're reading into his statement.
Remember who you're talking about here...ROVER! "Fired for cause" may mean one thing to you & I, but if you take those words literally, Rover would say I didn't say what kind of cause, did I? Good cause, bad cause, political cause, or 'cause we just didn't like them anymore!

Believe me, I've dealt with people like the Rover before. You really DO have to parse their every word. THAT'S how they manage to stay out of prison!!!

3. Karl Rove possibly implicated in political misdeeds undertaken below
the scrutiny of justice?

Well, we're just shocked beyond belief here at our house.

Shocked.
