Strikes on Baghdad's Green Zone on the Rise
On 6 of Past 7 Days, Rockets or Shells Have Hit Sector That Includes U.S. Embassy

BAGHDAD, March 29 -- Iraqi insurgents are increasingly hitting Baghdad's fortresslike Green Zone with rockets and mortar shells, officials said Wednesday.

Insurgents have struck inside the Green Zone, which includes the U.S. Embassy, on six of the past seven days, once with deadly consequences. A U.S. soldier and a U.S. government contractor were killed Tuesday night by a rocket attack that also seriously wounded a civilian, military and embassy officials said. One soldier and at least three other civilians received minor injuries, U.S. Embassy spokesman Lou Fintor said.

The attack stunned a workforce normally blase about Baghdad's habitual wartime booms and blasts.

A State Department official, speaking on condition of anonymity, also said, "There are increasing attacks on the embassy."

"These are people who are trying to kill Americans," the official added. "They have someone who is a straight shooter."

1. mishun ahkomplsht.
But it is only temporary. As we draw up the forces, there is bound to be more friction, but as we win, that will recede.

2. Just a matter of time.

150,000 troops trying to keep a country of 26 million (used to be now 23 to 24
million) under control ...... 80% + who want to see us dead and or gone.

3. I'm convinced of that, too, Botany. I actually hope it happens
sooner rather than later; those soldiers need to come home one way or the other, and not in boxes. :grr:

4. Monday the 19th @ an anti war protest (starting year 5)
I met an Iraqi Vet ..... marine combat medic. The stories he told
were blood chilling. The Iraqis set up motors with ice as a time delay
fuse .... put piece of ice in the middle of the tube .... put the shell on top
after the ice melts the motor round drops and then fires @ the target.
The Iraqis are long gone.

He had trouble getting rounds for his 9 mm side arm. So he had to go
and beg his captain for bullets before he got sent out. (I am a "red neck
liberal" I want our troops being sent into battle to have what the need to
kill the other side)

He has serious mental problems from the war and the V.A. has been helping him.

6. How is it possible that, with almost a trillion dollars spent, our soldiers don't have
bullets? WTF is going on over there?

7. We have outsourced much of the supply chain.
He told me stories that I wasn't sure how much was true
and how much of what he said was his delusion.

His job was from 2003 to 2005 to run up on his fellow
marines who were in different stages of being blow up
by this stupid war. He drove 50 miles to be in Columbus, OH
for the protest.

5. It won't be that bad ...
the "fortress" is too big, the american forces too good, and you won't have a mass of Iraqis that unified to be able to challenge the fortress ...

HOWEVER, the rocket/mortor attacks ... Surprised it took this long for them to start doing this like this, and it will only get worse ... It is one of the MANY illicit aspects of this thing that in the middle of the hell we created, that the createns responsible who have to be there get to live this bizarre lush life in the green zone ...

Due justice ...
