McCain skips third of votes in Senate

The Arizona Republic
Mar. 31, 2007 12:00 AM

WASHINGTON - Sen. John McCain's campaign for the White House has pulled him away from his day job more often than any other presidential candidate in the Senate.

An Arizona Republic analysis of voting records found that McCain has missed 42 votes this session. That's 33 percent of the 126 roll-call votes that had been held before lawmakers left town Friday for a weeklong Easter recess.

New York Democrat Hillary Clinton and Illinois Democrat Barack Obama missed only three votes each this session.

All three candidates have maintained heavy campaign schedules, with regular appearances across the country that connect them with voters and donors and keep their names in the headlines.

1. I'm not getting any strong inevitability to a McCain nomination at all.
This has been a wretched winter for him politically. Spring isn't looking that much better.

Giuliani is leading him in various polls.

The fundraising seems to be down.

He sounds worn and frazzled on tv.

4. I want him to win the repug primary...
just so he meet with a landslide defeat. He deserves it because he has earned the right to feel the wrath of the people.

7. I think he's in trouble. I kind of hope the GOP nominates Sam Brownback.
He's so extreme he'd be easier to pigeonhole and run against.

But you're right -- McCain deserves to know that his positions have been anti-people, and that the people are in a position to defeat him.

9. That really is quite a photo. The average Dobson-type voter is
going to have some problems with Rudy, that's for sure.

2. good news on two fronts.
the more the public sees this pandering, twofaced, liar, the worse his numbers get.

AND by being absent from the senate, he can't do damage to our country.
