Edwards hits $2 million in online donations
Edwards hits $2 million in online donations
Friday, March 30, 2007
Associated Press

----
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards reached an Internet fundraising target of $2 million on Friday, one day before campaigns close the books on first-quarter donations.
Edwards needed two months to reach the $1 million mark after launching his second bid for the presidency in December. But the campaign has seen a surge in donations since Edwards and his wife, Elizabeth, announced last week she was battling an incurable form of cancer.
Edwards had raised $2.12 million as of Friday night, almost double the amount he held before the cancer announcement March 22.
The former North Carolina senator sent an e-mail to voters Friday, urging supporters to contribute by Saturday, the end of first-quarter fundraising.
"Right now, as never before, your contributions have the power to shape the future of this campaign," Edwards wrote. "Please dig deep and give whatever you can, knowing that every dollar you add today will have an unprecedented power to make the vision we share a reality."
The Edwards campaign declined to reveal fundraising totals but tracks online fundraising through the Web site of ActBlue. Campaigns will reveal their fundraising totals in mid-April.

2. Interesting that Edwards uses ActBlue exclusively for donations online on his website.
Impressive that he has doubled his contributions to $2.12 million since March 22nd. I wholeheartedly support their continuing the campaign. Screw people like Bill Press who think Edwards should "forget the campaign."

Obama's online fundraising indicates that at 11:23AM EST his campaign has received 104,955 donations from 80,505 people. Obama lists donations this way, rather than money amounts.

7. I meant it figuratively
A supposed democratic pundit advocating Edwards dropping out (which would clearly help Hillary)? ok...

8. Why not say
he's on the Obama payroll, then? Clinton wouldn't be the only one to benefit if Edwards dropped out.

Or isn't it just possible that some people have opinions that differ from yours without actually being bribed to have them?

10. Edwards Lists # Donors Too
23,989 contributors.

That averages out to about $92 per contributor.

12. I'm such a sucker for deadline appeals
Interestingly, the Edwards web site and ActBlue have diverge in their numbers. The Edwards site has almost $2.9 million in internet donations listed (from 33,000+ donors) while ActBlue is at 2.25 million by about 24,500 donors. Either way, the small donor push seems to be going well for Edwards at the deadline.

Still wish somebody would bring back the baseball bat.
