A letter to the editor.

Democrats have betrayed unions

March 31, 2007

When thinking of the debate on the proposed fair-share bill, one thought comes to mind: disappointment. I have been a lifelong Democratic supporter and have worked diligently to get Democrats elected. Now I feel betrayed by the very elected representatives I have long supported.

If the Democratic Party cannot even level the playing field for us union members who support them, what good are they? In my line of work, this issue looms large every day and is very important.

I am tired of empty promises and all of the rhetoric that accompanies them. I will not say I will switch parties. However, I will be taking a good look at any future candidates.

- Steve Daniels,
divisional chairman, Local 310L,
United Steelworkers, Division 1,
Des Moines.

1. Omaha Steve
It is rather disappointing to realize that both parties in this country are not on our side. It is heart wrenching to face the biggest obstacle of all in bringing forward the changes we need to stop the wars, the corruption, the lies, the indifference and the corporate evils and to discover in the middle of your battle that you have no one (mabe a few but hardly enough to be heard) working for you in the chambers of congress either.

Democrats have betrayed us all on many many issues - they are just as bad as the republicans although a little less active in the destruction and more inactive on these destructive issues. The sooner the people of this country realize that the better off we are - the quicker we will be able to stop these wars, the needless killings, the torture, the factors that have made up a world wide humantarian crisis.

The American people have got to wAKE UP NOW! We are facing nothing short of the fate the Iraqis are currently suffering if not worse. The entire world thinks we are dumbed down, idiots who are indifferent to the altrocities committed by our own government and I would have to say that it most certainly appears that way.

While I understand more than most outside this country why so many people still cheer on the democrats, question very little about the 9/11 events - would rather not focus on torture policies; continue to work their corporate death jobs and aiding and abetting those that are slowly but surely killing the populace, I managed to break free of those things that have estranged us from our brothers and sisters in the world.

We have been from the time of birth, victims of propoganda, mindcontrol, history classes which are fictional tales based on true stories. The educational system even the higher education in this country seriously misleads people - it serves the powers that be and not th people. We have been taught to trust our leaders, that we are free, that we have a free press and our democracy keeps us from ever worrying about losing our constitutional rights an civil liberties. WE are all victims - but we are also personally responsible individuals with the intelligence, the will and the morals to break free of this rotten pit of despair we have found ourselves in. This land of denial - is a death trap that we must change now.

Thanks for being a brave patriot and tellig the truth about the democratic party too -and how that effects you, personally. These truths are all we have to battle the lies that we currentl live each and every day in America.

2. Wrong Steve but....

Its not my letter. However Nebraska has a fair share bill that is going nowhere fast too. The party has made a lot of mistakes while it has been out of power since 96. The 04 elections may have been the turning point. It depends on if the momentum continues to roll in 08 and beyond. Time will tell.

3. Triangulation
We need to take our Party back from the craven triangulators, whose only strategy is to get elected by sucking 1% less than the Republicans. I'm particularly apalled by the 'Democrats' running for President who voted for all kinds of US-job-obliterating 'free' trade bills - and now turn around and decry the offshoring of US jobs, and claim that they're for the little guy. And people - even many on DU - actually believe them.

We need real Democrats again.

4. You ca say that again
I was thinking that we need to write a few bills of our own. Find a democrat to sponser it and then make our rounds threatening recall election petititions if they don't support it.
