A piece in today's Houston Chronicle by one of my favorite political writers (Julie Mason):

"Attorney General Alberto Gonzales apparently thought the Senate Judiciary Committee convened Thursday to hear about all the good, important works the Justice Department is doing.

But he should have checked the calendar. The day is officially past when Bush administration Cabinet members could swan up to Capitol Hill for nothing more rigorous than a warm tongue bath and bonhomie from a friendly Congress."
