He posted a follow-up to his
15 minutes of fame at the expense of trashing of the dead at Virginia Tech last week. He titled it
And Yet I Am Unmoved.
The comments on his last piece of work contain some real gems: (yes, one or more of them is mine).
from FlyingHokie:
"...You knew you had Hokie relatives. You had to know this would get back to them. I lost people I knew and respected. Dr. Librescu's heroic actions also saved friends. To see you judging people you don't even know, trying to gauge your reaction in a situation you can't even possibly imagine, a situation with details that will probably never be fully known, is painful. This is a time to mourn the victims, not criticize them and the survivors. I'm proud to be part of the Virginia Tech family, but right now I'm ashamed to share any of your blood."
smellymcdead: Nate, if a shooter broke into your classroom, I have no doubt the only way you would stop him would be if he slipped on the pool of urine I am certain you would produce.
Spatula: You already are a coward. First with your insults of the dead and the survivors, then with your intellectually dishonest self-justification.
You called the dead cowards. You called men and women who risked their lives to hold doors shut cowards.
"True, I've never had someone come into my classroom and start shooting. But I've never been married, and I'm pretty sure that doesn't disqualify me from saying that adultery and wife-beating are wrong, and criticizing those who commit adultery and beat their wives."
This is a false eqivalency. There's a damn big difference between saying domestic violence is wrong and making up stuff about what you think people are capable of doing under fire based on nothing but a fanciful sense of machismo. You had little knowledge of this event and clearly did no research into the history or science of how people react to such situations and why. Yet this didn't stop you from preaching about manliness by heaping contempt on the dead. ...
Sam Spiro: ...You claim in some of your other postings to be a Christian, yet you sit in judgment of your fellow man without a SHRED of evidence or knowledge to back up your comments. You are a disgusting example of what it means to be a Christian. You should think seriously about what Professor Hall suggested above. Think seriously about what it means to be a Christian, what it means to have empathy and sympathy for others in a time of crisis like this, and not stand in judgment over the actions of others who cannot defend themselves.
I can only hope that if there is any 'justice' in this world, someone who knows Nate and reads his callous, insensitive, pompous remarks, will find him and test his 'manliness' to see how much of a man this twit really is. Something makes me think that you would fail that test very very badly. ...
surfcitysteven: Nate, you just don't get it do you? You even equate the actions of the people in those classrooms as on par with adultery! What a moron. Look at the last election Nate. People in this country are fed up with sanctimonious blow-hards, that talk a big game then fail to come up with the goods when it mattered. Look at the list of your right wing heroes.
George Bush- AWOL

All you right wingers, big talk, big cowards. The list of neo-con cowards could fill this site for days.
Well Grounded Hokie: Young Mr. Blake seems to have major concerns over whether he could have been a "manly man" and stopped pure Evil were he in the classroom at Norris Hall. He is pretty sure he would have reacted bravely but he has lingering doubts. Those doubts are natural. In life threatening situations humans act on instinct. The strongest instinct of all is self preservation. In the VT situation that is exactly how anyone not specifically trained in handling those situations would tend to react - at VT, at Oregon State, at an NRA convention, anywhere.
One effective way to modify instinctive behavior is through repetitive training. Airline pilots, police, and fireman all are trained over and over again how to react in life threatening situations until the desired reactions become instinctive and predominant over the ones that evolution gave us.
If young Mr. Blake has concerns about his ability to fulfill his responsibilities as male I have a suggestion: The Federal Government has a wonderful program. They will actually pay you to train day after day as to how to handle oneself in life threatening situations. They will drum this behavior into you so that you can react like a well oiled machine without even thinking. After thorough training you presently have the rare opportunity to put those skills to work in the field thousands of miles from home. There, you may remove any doubts about your ability to cope with a life threatening situation on a daily basis.
I do not think that young Mr. Blake sees this as his destiny. He sees that as work better suited for others of lessor intellect (he has said as much in previous writings). His destiny is to fight the Evil of Liberalism with his keyboard, saving mankind one sentence at a time.
Mr. Blake, I still think you owe the extended family at Virginia Tech an apology. It should be in an article on this forum and not buried in the comments. It should not be in the form of an "I apologize.....but". Writing an apology with no qualifications is what a "real man" would do.
It is interesting that a few conservative hacks added comments for a while and gave up one by one as they were completely embarrassed by some cogent progressives whom I was proud to join.
.....and to Mr. Blake who is sure to follow the links back: Welcome to DU! Stick around and you might learn a few things.;)
