for giving us the one word we need to describe the bush administration. And one the shrub likely couldn't spell or say.

Kakistocracy, rule by the least-able or least-principled of citizens, is a form of government in which the people least qualified to control the government are the people who control the government.

2. Reminds me of a passage from the Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy:

The major problem - one of the major problems, for there are several - one of the many major problems with governing people is that of whom you get to do it; or rather of who manages to get people to let them do it to them.

To summarize: it is a well known fact, that those people who most want to rule people are, ipso facto, those least suited to do it.

To summarize the summary: anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job.

To summarize the summary of the summary: people are a problem.

5. Yes, that is my favorite word to describe our times
Thank you for your post I always love to see that word. The real meaning of the word is actually even better than you describe it, it is not only the least qualified people but the worst people in all of society.

Kakistocracy
-noun
government by the worst persons; a form of government in which the worst persons are in power.

13. Glad to see this posted!
My hubby and I watched the Bee last night and both thought that "Kakistocracy" belonged on DU and pretty much describes * & Co almost to a T-except that "least principled" should be replaced with the words "downright evil".

15. at once depressing and encouraging, that there's already a word for it!
At least it will save us having to make one up, to go with the full-color fold-out photo of the Bush Administration that will be included in new editions of dictionaries worldwide.

But seriously -- if people have seen this kind of thing before, enough to name it, perhaps we can hope that there's also a way to get over it.
