Study finds media overplays religious conservatives
http://www.abpnews.com/2266.article

WASHINGTON (ABP) -- A new study by two Washington-based groups asserts that the mainstream media, derided by some as liberally biased, actually overemphasizes the importance of religious conservatives.

Media Matters for America and Faith in Public Life released the report, titled "Left Behind: The Skewed Representation of Religion in the Major News Media," at a Washington news conference May 29. It found that between the 2004 elections and the end of 2006, prominent conservative religious leaders were interviewed, quoted or mentioned in 2.8 times as many stories as were prominent moderate or liberal religious leaders.

In television news, the numbers were even more surprising: for every story that mentioned or quoted a religious progressive, 3.8 stories mentioned or quoted conservatives. The difference was less dramatic in newspaper stories, but conservatives still outweighed "progressives" by a factor of 2.7-to-1.

Doo...doo.

1. Study finds bears defecate in wooded areas;
still, it's good to have this documented.

2. It may be obvious to you
but many DUers seem to think that the paucity of liberal theists on TV is the result of liberal theists not caring to criticize the religious conservatives.

3. Liberal theists tend to be deep thinkers; TV hates that...
The whole compassion thing doesn't play well in the ratings either.

4. and yet wingnut still cry "liberal media"
I doubt any of the wingnuts will consider this study valid since it doesn't promote their agenda or propaganda.

5. Oh, no, no, can't bring religion into this. Don't talk about religion.
You might offend someone.

6. Braindead screamers make better copy
for tabloid news media. After all, who cares about the series of bake sales and pot lucks at the Lutheran church that paid for digging new wells in Somalia? Some wack job with a sign on his chest screaming about abortion will sell more papers and grab more attention on the evening news.

The religious nuts (they're are NOT right, NOT ever)get the most press because they are a LOUD minority.

Fortunately, it's not working out too well for them these days. People are finally getting sick to death of being bullied by assholes wrapped in the flag and carrying the cross.
