John Kerry denies report of extramarital affair with young woman

http://www3.cjad.com/content/cjad_news/article.asp?id=w021365A

WASHINGTON (CP) - Democratic presidential front-runner John Kerry has denied an allegation that surfaced this week about an extramarital relationship with a young woman.

Kerry told an MSNBC radio station Friday: "There is nothing to report, nothing to talk about. There's nothing there. There's no story."

Later, on the campaign trail in Madison, Wis., Kerry told reporters: "I just deny it categorically. It's rumour. It's untrue. Period."

Kerry said it was the last time he intended to speak about the matter.

Edit: This sounds like a real denial to me--more so than the Imus answer this morning.

1. Who cares?
Even so..it's between Kerry and his wife. IF it is true. Didn't we learn our lesson with Clinton. I don't want to pay for any more investigations of black dresses, etc.

3. It goes to electability
If it's true, Kerry is unelectable.

13. John Kerry Has
wanted to be president for at least 20 years. He is not stupid and knows that extramarital affairs would not bode well. Clinton got in trouble because of them. Even if he wanted to he knows it would be the end of his marriage and the end of his getting the nomination. Not fair but true. He watched the hell everyone put Clinton thru and he would not want that for himself. They are just trying to throw mud and see if it can stick.

How dare you.

Drudge said it therefore it is true.

Maybe someone was just testing the waters with this one.

Just a theory, folks, just a theory. I really don't give a rat's patooie.

9. That's a categorical denial
I don't understand why people would be so anxious to believe something put out by a known Rove smear op like Drudge to begin with.

But this categorical denial still isn't going to be enough for those who wanted it to be true in order to revive their own candidates failing campaigns.

20. This is a better response then from this morning's Imus interview,
he has said it is not true, and I take him at his word.

And please let him be telling the truth, if only for our party's sake.

this rumor if there is any truth to it that could come back to haunt him. He knows better. That would be deadly.

12. Bill Clinton categorically denied his intern too
Little did he know that she kept a little souvenir.

He's only denying because he's fairly sure he won't get caught.

Just another Washington sleazeball.

14. I honestly
do not have a problem with his denial. How can you satisfy people who want to believe something bad about you because they don't like you. Don't try because the more you do the more they will yap.

19. There's a paragraph in the AP article about Kerry in Wis.
but it's in the middle of the story and not the focus of it. It reports the categorical denials.

He said this morning he wasn't going to talk about it anymore. Now he isn't going to talk about it anymore until he talks about it again?
Want to take bets that he will indeed talk about it again?

"There is nothing to report, nothing to talk about. There's nothing there. There's no story."

That is a classic non-denial.

"I just deny it categorically. It's rumour. It's untrue. Period.

That's closer to a real denial, but what does the antecedent "it" refer to?

Here's a real denial:

"I never have been and never will be unfaithful to my wife and I resent any sleazy implication otherwise."

You know, the type of denial that Howard Dean could truthfully make if he were ever accused of these shenanigans.

27. I have to admit...
Howard Dean would probably make a more forceful and believable denial.

I'm still going to believe the rumor is false, because I believe he's innocent until proven guilty. So far he's denied it. There has been absolutely no evidence to support it.

However IF (and it's still a big if), this is true, I will NOT forgive him for even running in the first place. Too many people's hopes are placed in him, rightly or wrongly. If he were to lose this election for simply not running a great campaign that's one thing, but I don't want this election lost on Goddamn "monkey business".

I don't want the party to become the "adulterers' party". We had enough of that stupid shit six years ago. Clinton wasted much political time and capital on that. He should have known better.

And for Kerry, if this were true, there is NO excuse, ABSOLUTELY NONE. This election is simply too damn important for that. He's had enough time to see what would happen if he were to engage in such behavior. If you're in politics (and that too running for president), you've gotta be a damned fool to think that every thing you've said, every single person you've associated with, will not be scrutinized...Especially if you're a democrat.
