Hillary, la única que acudió
Edited on Sat Jun-09-07 10:38 PM by William769

Wow, I just wrote in Spanish and didn't need a dictionary to understand the text and even used the subjunctive "pueda".

9. The ja ja was for the phrase "not dead but on life support," not the whole post.
The second part was meant to be "No, not if Mr. Dobbs and others are able to stop the Dream Bill by their actions." Which would be my translation of my "Not if the Dream Bill can stop itself by the actions of Mr. Dobbs and others," choosing the reflexive for the second part.

10. That dimmed subjunctive: pagar, changes to e from the a, hence,
"paguen" instead of "pagan", the normal form, the u has to follow the g to make the g hard instead of sounding like an h in English, since the g would follow an e.

The worst part of Spanish for English speakers, at least for me.

11. I teach Spanish I and II at university level
and my students hate the subjunctive, because they don't understand the concept.

13. Multiple visits to San Juan make me have to understand it! Quepa was the weirdest word for me!
What is a quepa, some sort of Incan bird net or something? That was my first thought!

How was my translation of what I meant to say in English above?

I think I write it better than I speak it, as everyone, everywhere makes fun of my accent, regardless of their native accent!

12. Hillary "alzó su puño", IOW "raised her fist?'
She is pandering, as are many Democrats, on an issue (immigration) in which the American people may not be willing to go along with.

The GOP is demagoguing immigration as an issue of amnesty, while the Democrats are really not sure how to pander to the Latino community without offending those precious independents we waste so much time and efford on.

Perhaps it is best to say that we will enforce the laws that are already on the books, and add that no country in the world can survive with porous borders and illegal immigration.

It would also help if we were truthful and discussed how neoliberal policies pursued by Democratic and Republican Administrations in Latin America have contributed to the flood of economic refugees in our country.
