These are the people who voted with the Democrats about Gonzalez today:
Seven Republicans voted for the no-confidence resolution, including four senators who had called for a new attorney general: Sens. John Sununu (news, bio, voting record) of New Hampshire, Gordon Smith (news, bio, voting record) of Oregon, Chuck Hagel (news, bio, voting record) of Nebraska and Norm Coleman (news, bio, voting record) of Minnesota. Joining them were Specter and Maine Republicans Olympia Snowe (news, bio, voting record) and Collins.
What do five of these people have in common? Well, they are all up for re-election in 2008 and now they are darting to the center faster than you can say "impeach Bush". It is such a joke. I hope that all loyal democrats can see through the fact that these Senators have been Bush apologists for the last six years and have rubber-stamped every single move that he has wanted to make, but now that the Titanic is going down, they are desperate to hold on to their seats--as Republicans in Democratic-leaning states.
I'll tell these guys the same thing I would tell Colin Powell--until you get rid of that little (R) behind your name, you will receive no quarter from my party.
So I say to you....Sununu, Smith, Coleman, Collins, and Hagel...stop pretending to be a moderate Republican so you can save your seat---either switch parties or get the hell on down the road. You'll find your buddies Chafee, Burns, Allen, et al, waiting for you.
