Hillary's Feminist problem
this is a good, balanced article looking at the reason progressive women, feminist women do not like hillary.
But, the article is counter balanced with postives and possible reasons for and against Hillary.
Worth checking out if you are for or against her as it may give answers to why the other side feels the way they do.

I love so completely that, honestly, she would have to burn down the White House before I would say anything bad about her!" exclaimed Nora Ephron in a 1993 Newsday interview. Three years later, she told the Wellesley class of 1996, "Understand: Every attack on Hillary Clinton for not knowing her place is an attack on you." Come late 2006, however, Ephron was the one on the attack as one of the self-described "Hillary resisters"--those who believe that "she will do anything to win, who believe she doesn't really take a position unless it's completely safe," as she wrote on her Huffington Post blog, "who believe she has taken the concept of triangulation and pushed it to a geometric level never achieved by anyone including her own husband, who can't stand her position on the war, who don't trust her as far as you can spit."

This rather dramatic change of heart encapsulates one of the great ironies of Hillary Clinton's bid for the presidency. Many of the very same feminists who were her most ardent supporters as First Lady are now fiercely opposed to her historic bid to become the first female President of the United States. The woman once described by Susan Faludi as a symbol of "the joy of female independence" now evokes ambivalence, disdain and, sometimes, outright vitriol. The right wing's favorite "femi-nazi" now has to contend with Jane Fonda comparing her to "a ventriloquist for the patriarchy with a skirt and a vagina."

So what's up with the Hillary-bashing? "Women don't trust Hillary. They see her as an opportunist; many feel betrayed by her," wrote Susan Douglas in a May In These Times article titled "Why Women Hate Hillary." A month later, in her Newsweek column, Anna Quindlen declared, "The truth is that Senator Clinton has a woman problem."

Not exactly true, as it turns out. Hillary Clinton was the number-one choice of 42 percent of likely Democratic primary women voters in a recent Zogby survey, compared with 19 percent for Barack Obama and 15 percent for John Edwards. And her favorable rating among independent women is a whopping twenty-one points higher than among independent men.

Let's be clear: Hillary has a "feminist problem," and more so with those who lean left.

1. I can tell you, I don't know one woman personally in my immediate
circle that trust her or want to vote for her. It doesn't mean that there are women out there who don't support her, I just don't know any... including me. She's a sell out. At least if you are going to try to be the first woman president, do it with a bang. Be strong, independent, and lead with a sense of heart. I don't see her heart in any of her pre-scripted mantra. She's a sellout.

4. Good grief - I am an old feminist and I am so tired of this drivel.
What the article illustrates is the usual problem - So called feminists seek perfection, not progress.

5. What Progress?
Drivel is believing in the ideology of progress; it's a form of accommodation based in a system of rights that is slowly being compromised by patriarchy.

19. Progress is more outsourcing?
More favors for her corporate backers? More backing the futile attempt to dominate the rest of the world with military force? More media consolidation? More union-busting?

22. You and me both.
More of the same "I'm more feminine that thou" crap.

I had a reply all typed out last night about these so-called "feminists" too and changed my mind because I was having a hard time putting my thoughts into words.

I'm a feminist too. Though I'm not old, I guess I'm from the old-school too because I see what you are saying.

16. The women I know who support her
are only doing so because they want Bill back in the White House. To me, that isn't putting the first woman in the White House based on her own merits. I can't get excited about that.

9. Well, this feminist isn't voting for her.
Yes, there are some worst-case scenarios in which I would probably consider it (a little). But for the first time in my voting life, I'm also considering going to a third party candidate if there is one and she or he is viable and not named Ralph Nader. Which is a place I never thought I'd be. Ever.

10. From Wehatehillarynation.com - already been busted for being a little less than honest about her
Edited on Sat Jun-16-07 05:33 AM by wyldwolf
Clinton has been endorsed by major female figures - including NOW.

She leads among women.

Nation writers, repeat after me:

Hillary has no labor problem. The facts don't support your op-eds.
Hillary has no feminist problem. The facts don't support your op-eds. And quoting a few individual will not make it so.

The Nation is on the verge of joining a growing list of reporters, activists, and organizations that are trading in their credibility for a few pot shots at the Clintons.

bought off ... err ... encouraged ... well, perhaps but not likely - FREELY are endorsing HRC, does not mean that that WOMEN in general are all that thrilled about her.

The ruling powers that be are BANKING on HRC winning The Presidency. In fact, they are consulting her and other Clintontonians for input on a pre-formed *Shadow Government* up and running for next Presidency. :wow: :scared: :wow:

June 15, 2007 - American Prospect

http://www.prospect.org/csnc/blogs/tapped

SHADOW GOVERNMENT IN WAITING. The Bush administration had the American Enterprise Institute as its ideological brain trust and frequent employment agency. The next White House will likely have the Center for a New American Security (CNAS), a new, bi-partisan, national security-oriented think tank at 13th and Pennsylvania Avenue. CNAS launches a roll-out June 27, featuring a new Iraq report that has already generated some interest around town. The paper, Phased Transition: a Responsible Way Forward and Out of Iraq, is expected to argue for reducing the US troop presence in Iraq by 100,000 to 60,000 by the end of 2008, and a total withdrawal by 2012. In the short term, the report also urges reorienting the US military mission in Iraq toward an enhanced advisory and training role, and focusing on a "bottom up" approach of reinforcing local security forces over the current top-down approach of propping up the Iraqi central government. "We would like this administration not to hand off a catastrophe," says CNAS' director of external affairs Price Floyd, a 17-year veteran of the State Department.

Led by two defense experts and veterans from the Center for Strategic and International Studies, Dr. Kurt Campbell, and Michele Flournoy, and with a board that includes Bush's former deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage, Clinton-era Defense Secretary Bill Perry and Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, CNAS has attracted some of the rising stars -- both uniformed and civilian -- of the Pentagon intelligentsia. On the QT, we hear prez aspirant Hillary Clinton, former councilor to Secretary of State Rice Philip Zelikow, rumored future Dem administration national security advisor Jim Steinberg, and Senator Chuck Hagel are slated to address the CNAS kickoff at the Willard. But it will be the ability of the younger thinkers driving the enterprise to come up with new and transformative ideas for the next administration that is the real test of its clout.

And who else is being included but, one each, Hillary Clinton. :grr:

26. Where is the accomplishment?
The NWPLC is a nonpartisan organization that exists to get women elected. NOW is a no brainer. It is a symbolic gesture.

If the above women are members of either organization- again a no brainer.

That round of endorsements that have nothing to do with her candidacy and feminism debate.
My own feminist leanings have not been positively influence by her candidacy.

Too conservative for me. Bill supported NAFTA which accelerated the destruction of the middle class.
