If the Democrats are just as big corporatists as the Republicans...
...(which I don't believe, by the way), then how come these big donors spend so much money trying to get the Republicans elected? Wouldn't it not matter?

My clever observation makes you go:

1. Um, the big donors tend to give pretty equally to both parties.
Don't believe me, look it up.

17. You May Have Heard The Adage, Ma'am
That many problems began life as solutions?

This proposal is one such.

Its two leading draw-backs are these.

First, once elected, and having no need either to court or fear the voters in future, there would be no check possible on the venality with which backers could be repayed.

Second, the churn of new officials wpould strip the legislatures of institutional memory and continuity, which would reside only in the permanent lobbying firms, and in the staffs who the offials would have to look to for guidance in all things. Always, the contest over content and passage of legislation would be between veteran professionals and raw amateur recruits.

"The battle goes not always to the strong, nor the race always to the swift, but that's the way to bet."

10. My favorite DLC conspiracy theory is still...
...that the DLC gave the tape of Dean screaming with no crowd noise to the media. I think they might have said that the DLC were the ones controlling the mixing board too.

5. They give more to Republicans...
But they do give to both parties. Also, there is a tendency to give to whoever is in power no matter what party they are.

As do public statements and other actions that legitimize and enable corporatist polices.

Would you like a shotgun approach- or a target rifle?

The Bankruptcy bill would be a good place to start. A more egregious and self-defeating piece of legislation would be hard to come by....

You know full well that some Dems take corporate money. You'd just like to shield them from any kind of real scrutiny.

32. All Democratic votes versus all Republican votes, 2004 until now.
That's the only fair comparison. Most of us know that there's a difference, but if someone wants to prove that there's not, they can go ahead.

I don't need to compare all Dem votes to all Repub votes to know if a Dem is voting with the corporations. But you knew that.
