"Jack Bauer saved Los Angeles... He saved hundreds of thousands of lives."
-- Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, quoted by Globe and Mail, sticking up for the fictional federal agent in the television series 24 while arguing that interrogators "require latitude in times of great crisis."

1. That man is not reality-based.
I would so much like to think he was joking. But he's just not funny.

2. Scalia is completely disconnected from reality.
He's a danger to us all.

20. I'm reading a book that mentions him from his school days
Page 75 of "Safe Harbor A Murder in Nantucket", by Brian McDonald

He went to Xaxier High which in 1935 became a "junior ROTC school and gained a reputation for its scholastics and rifle team. The most famous rifleman the school produced was Antonin Scalia. According to a profile of the Supreme Court associate justice in The New Yorker, Justice Scalia would ride the subway from Queens to Xavier with a .22 carbine on his lap."

Danger indeed. Too bad Homeland Securty wasn't around then...he'd be a TERRORIST riding around like that on public transportation!

3. When someone in his position talks insanely like that, isn't he supposed to be
removed from office and put into a nuthouse? It's not like he deserves any rights or anything. Anymore.

19. It isn't like the first time
scalia has shown he'd be more comfortable in medically supervised facility, either.

That doesn't make it any more real.

11. Well, it could be...
Dementia, yes. This is a man who is evincing a tenuous grip on reality.

8. Same mentality that leads to promotion of Fred Thompson--he played a Prez once in a movie!
They don't need reality. Portrayal is close enough.

12. You ARE kidding me, aren't you? . . . . No, you're not.
Anyone else who used fiction to justify reality would be carted off to a therapist at best, a strait jacket at worst. What's next? The Flintstones as "proof" that dinosaurs and humans co-existed? Spiderman as evidence of the beneficial effects of radiation? Santa Claus? The Tooth Fairy?

IT'S MAKE BELIEVE, SCALIA!!!! IT'S NOT REAL!!!!!

Tansy Gold, who has written enough fiction in her life to know the difference

13. Well, Mr. Limpett single-handedly defeated the Nazi Navy
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0058230/

By Scalia's logic, the government isn't spending nearly enough on research to turn humans into fish.

Time for the men with nets to come and take Scalia away. Not only an evil bastard but crazy too.

15. I can remember a Mighty Mouse cartoon where he saved a town from a flood
So, if we follow up on Scalia's thinking, the disaster in New Orleans had nothing to do with the Bush administration. It was all the fault of Mighty Mouse for not showing up to hold up the levees.

16. And Scalia screwed *tens of millions of Americans out
of having their votes counted leading to tens if not hundreds of thousands of deaths by lie and incompetence. If there really was a Jack Bauer, he would be kicking Scalia's ass.

* When they screwed the people in Florida out of having their votes counted, they in effect screwed everyone else that voted in the rest of the nation as well, even the people who voted for Bush.

18. There you have it..
We have a rwfascist judge on the supreme court who doesn't understand the difference between reality and a drama show on tv.

I'd like to hear what Keifer Sutherland would have to say about using his show to rationalize the terrorizing of the bushits.

Shoulda listened to Anita Hill.
