Dean seeks to rally Democratic base in advance of Wisconsin primary
02-14) 10:03 PST MILWAUKEE (AP) --

Howard Dean campaigned Saturday with his two black roommates from college as he sought to appeal to traditional Democratic voters ahead of Wisconsin's important primary.

Despite a poll showing him trailing front-runner John Kerry by a wide margin going into Tuesday's contest, Dean said at a breakfast meeting of black ministers he had bolstered his campaign by reaching out to the party faithful from the start.

"We're going to start with the African-American community. We're going to start with women," Dean said as he listed the various groups that typically vote with the Democrats.

"I'm tired of being divided in this country," he told an audience of about 200 people. "I'm tired of being divided by race, by gender, by income or by religion."
