3. Buchanan said he wants to eliminate the magnets, and one of the
magnets is our social welfare programs. I'm not sure I agree with Pat on that one.

He also says he doesn't want to set up a gestapo, I have to ask, "Since when?"

13. I heard exactly what he said.
I've also read the transcript:

We don’t want to set up a Gestapo and try to do that. Where do you begin?

You begin by enforcing the border, prosecuting businesses hiring illegals. And you go after, in deportation, the 600,000 who’ve been ordered deported who are now criminal felons who have stayed in this country. Many of them are child molesters, they’re drunk drivers, they’re rapists, they’re robbers. They’ve got a variety of crimes, but they commit a felony by being here. Start with them, go to the gang members who don’t belong in the country, continue with them. Go after the folks who getting out of prison. These are the ones Chertoff should be after.

Meanwhile, you get rid of the magnets that draw them here. There are two main magnets. One is corporations that are corrupt and hire illegal aliens and don’t hire American workers. And the second is social welfare benefits, which are very generous in this country, and people come for them. Get rid of the magnets, secure the border, enforce the law, you don’t need this bill.

Buchanan's been wanting to get rid of our social welfare benefits for years. He did NOT say get rid of social welfare benefits for illegal immigrants. He said get rid of social welfare benefits.

15. if you are here illegally
you should not be getting our social welfare benefits.

all US citizens and legal residents should have free health benefits. but not illegal aliens

Pat Buchanan also made a good point, you cannot obviously deport 12 million people, but you can deport those that have criminal records, are members of gangs, etc.

additionally go after those corrupt corporations that hire illegal aliens.

18. People coming to work are not criminals
I say we deport all our criminals, starting with the executive branch.

Leave the working poor alone.

20. How about those who only pay enough child support to stay
out of jail and not a penny more (which isn't the $7,000 he still owes)? Like my ex husband. :grr:

4. And you say that like you're proud of it, too.........
maybe you just don't realize the extent of his xenophobic and racist views? I'll give you the benefit of the doubt until you admit otherwise.

12. i am fully aware
of his racist views.

however i agree with him that we need to eliminate illegal immigration, severely punish those who hire illegal immigrants.

where i diverge from him (which didnt come up today) is that i feel we should increase legal immigration.

but we cannot reward those who broke the laws by coming here illegally wholesale.

even pat buchanan realized we cannot just ship out 12 million illegal immigrants, but we cannot just legalize them all at once either.

but i am proud to say that i oppose the current immigration reform bill before congress.

5. Immigration is a red herring non-issue to divert eyes from Iraq
Edited on Sun Jun-24-07 10:34 AM by SoonerPride
It was a non-issue 10 years ago and 7 years ago and 3 years ago.

Who cares if there are 12 million or 120,000,000 undocumented workers in our country? If there is work for them they will come and if there is no work for them they will go elsewhere.

It is a non-issue.

Really.

It means nothing.

8. Spoken like someone that benefits from the current fiasco. Are you a worker
in the construction or food processing industries?

Didn't think so.

16. i disagree
those 12 million workers are here illegally, thus breaking the law. the companies that hire them are breaking the law.

as long as those corrupt corporations are allowed to hire them without penalty, or even get amnesty for their past hires under the current bill, they will continue to exploit the illegal immgrants

go after these corrupt corporations that are hiring illegal aliens. big time.

17. It is an illusion and a diversion
People should be free to move about, migrate like geese, without restrictions.

Borders are illusory and man-made nonsense.

Crossing the border to find work is no great crime. Let them come.

No one cared about it until the Republicans wanted to make people forget about the war. It's flag buring or school prayer. An emotional non-issue.

21. actually its been an issue
for years, ever since at least the mid 80's when reagan pushed thru an amnesty law.

so you believe in no borders at all?

do you believe in national sovereignty/governments? dont countries have a right to decide for themselves who is and isnt allowed in?

Very strange, defending a creep like Buchanan, but he's more right on this issue than either party.
