I wonder how many Kucinich supporters know that he voted for a constitutional amendment to make desecration of the American flag illegal... in my view, that's grabbing the First Amendment by the neck, pulling out a knife and slitting its throat.

It should be as clear as day that nothing is going to happen by voting for Dems. Today SCOTUS voted against free speech and in favor of * giving my tax money to ultra-right-wing "churches". I am frankly for whatever gets the revolution going most quickly. It voting another Rove puppet into office does the trick, I am all for it.

it's easy to criticize Nader for 2000 or for nonsense like he's arrogant or egotistical.

the idiocy of those who proffer such drivel is that they fail to discuss his ideas. many of us "on the left" strongly support many of his views on corporate tyranny and the need to restore power to the American people. As a candidate or just a spokesman, Nader is transitory. HE does NOT matter. But ideas stand and fall on their own independent of their source.

i've been closely watching the very real strains within the Democratic Party. The last time I saw anything like this was 1968. That didn't work out too well.

It's interesting to see so many spewing such hatred for Nader. Many argue he cost Gore the election. But it seems to me the loss of the left is far more prevalent right now then it was back in 2000. Do you agree? I mean Nader got what, a few points in the polls at best? This feels different right now. BTW, this does not feel like some kind of great surge for a third party; it feels like a very deeply felt anger at the Democratic Party.

The solution is not more threads about what a bunch of jerks everyone is. The solution can only come about through negotiation. I don't see much of that happening right now. If the party thinks the left is only minimally important, they should just keep going like they're going. I would counsel otherwise. It's always hard to know what DU reflects. A recent DU poll showed 42% won't vote for Hillary. No need to argue about the poll's quality or whether that's in any way representative of the broader party. But don't be deceived into complacency either. If the Democrats lose 2% or 5% or 7% of their activist left, they'll have huge problems. That would be way more than the "Nader effect".

The only good news is that there are hints the party is starting to look left. I think they're genuinely worried. We might just see some very real progress on Iraq very soon. Stay tuned for details on this ...
