Is the Post series an attempt by Poppy to displace Cheney?
I find it curious that after carrying water for this criminal regime for so long, the Post decides to go after Uncle Dick in so much graphic detail. Poppy and all the 41 Bushniks must be outraged at what has happened to the family brand. Especially since Jeb was always Poppy's choice to reinstate the clan's hold on the presidency. So is the earth shifting under the VP's feet as George's Daddy looks for scapegoats for the debacle that is the W regency? GOP leaders, who conspired to foist the boy on us and acceded to Cheney as W's nanny, must be looking for a way to stanch the bleeding before the '08 elections. It may be wishful thinking on my part, but I think there may be an effort afoot to dump Dick and the Post series is a leading indicator of such a ploy.

3. Interesting angle but I think the Post might have other motives
Get rid of cheney so bush can pick his successor. Anyone would be cleaner and more palatable then cheney (including pol pot.) I'd rather cheney not be dumped. Let us be patient and ensure that the president and the vice president of the United States, two incredibly inept, incompetent, criminal human beings are leaders of the grand old party right up to election day, and let us point that out on a daily basis. I don't trust the WAPO.

6. Hey, why not? It actually makes some sense. Ever since junior started
going bad, daddy has been maneuvering behind the scenes, in ways great and small. Wouldn't surprise me in the least.

Remember this delicious commentary by Eleanor Clift ("bush and the Family Franchise")?

Enjoy! Well worth revisiting. One of my alltime favorite columns. Even awhile back when it came out, it still confirmed everything many of us here had already suspected.

8. Your theory is most interesting and most likely right on. The old man
would love to get Jebbie boy in a good position to be Prez (feels guilty about George). We'll have to wait and see.

9. I posted the following in the middle of a thread the other day -
I was asked not to repeat it but sometimes I don't listen.

How to save the Repub party:

Cheney gets exposed through media manipulation by the WH.

Bush/Rove have no choice but to ask for his resignation because they just found out what a scoundrel he is.

With the help of the msm the citizens are then assured that Bush is really in charge or taking command because once he found out about Cheney's dark side from the Washington Post he took action.

His numbers go up.

Bush appoints a new v-p - That person can then run as a semi-incumbent for the top spot.

The Repub congress critters can talk about how decisive Bush is and get on his coattails for fund raising and poll numbers.

The Repub congress critters can easily get re-elected.

The party is saved.

The script has been written.

It is up to Rove to pull the protective tape.

10. Sally Quinn is pushing Cheney's removal & replacement
with Thompson, the faux Reagan. I think we are on to something here. Your scenario is totally believable. Think about how many people gave negative information to the Post for the series. Clearly, Republicans feel free to attack the VP. The question is whether it is spontaneous or is it being orchestrated by Poppy ?

11. I felt most of the information for the WP articles came
from former Bush staffers - also Powell obviously furnished a lot of the info (some sourced/some not). I previously commented that I can not even imagine the turf battles that have been going on between Bush and his staff (and Cabinet) and Cheney and his staff. The v-p's staff has been winning.

Can you just imagine thinking you are in the room when policy is being discussed/decided and all of a sudden a completely different policy shows up on the news. You are not human if you do not want revenge.

12. I think it's too little too late though.
I do agree that you've come up with an interesting take. And I do agree with the OP that poppy (who's starting to look fair & reasonable compared to dumbya) is trying to pull not just dimsum, but the whole repub party, out of the toilet.

I just think that they'll have to do a lot more than fire dickhead.

13. You're right. Getting Cheney out is not a total solution, but
it is the first step in reeling little George back to the planet Earth before he obliterates it.

14. I think their first stab at reeling him in was the
Iraq Study Group & dimsum blew them off with his inimitable style. I can't see dimsum letting them take dickhead away from him. He'd be fucking lost.

15. It was a two pronged strategy. The second part was to insert
Gates as a substitute nanny. Unfortunately, Cheney's grip on W can only be loosened by his removal.
