Note this is from Dicky Mellon Scaife's rag the Pittsburgh Tribune Review.http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/tribune-review/news/s_172007.htmlHoward Dean, the former Democratic governor of Vermont whose presidential bid has been fueled by anger at President Bush, appears to be off to a strong start among party activists in southwestern Pennsylvania.
While some party leaders like U.S. Rep. John Murtha favor someone else for the nomination, it is evident that Dean has captured the imagination of many Democrats on the basis of his opposition to the war in Iraq and his willingness to stand toe to toe with the president.
For instance, both Rosemary Trump, Westmoreland County Democratic chairperson, and her immediate predecessor, Kenneth Burkley, favor Dean over the other seven Democratic hopefuls.
Jack Hanna, state committeeman from Indiana County who supports Dean, said the candidate is "expressing" the core values of the Democratic Party at the same time that he appears to be drawing into the process "new political participants," especially young people.
