Carmel Valley, San Diego has officially joined the anti-war fraternity!
Edited on Thu Aug-02-07 10:48 PM by Seabiscuit
Just read in a local Carmel Valley paper that starting last Sunday, and every Sunday this month from 1-2pm, local residents are congregating at the corner of El Camino Real and Del Mar Heights Road (NE corner) to protest the Iraq war. People are holding up all kinds of signs, including "Enough!" signs. I'll be there on Sundays from now on. The article mentioned that about 95% of drivers are cheering them on.

In case anyone's wondering, Carmel Valley is just east of Del Mar, on the east side of Highway 5. Del Mar is just north of La Jolla along the coast in the "North County Coastal" area of San Diego (where us progressives live, for the most part). Carmel Valley has been my home since the summer of 2001.

1. My sister lives in Oceanside; how close is that?
I'd be happy to pass some info on.

10. A quick drive right down the 5 south.
Oceanside's the northernmost town on the coast of San Diego, just south of Camp Pendelton.

3. Been going to Carmel Valley since 1956
I'm from La Jolla. Google Mac Meda Destruction Company just for kicks. We now live on the wild Southern Oregon Coast in a small town of just 1200 people, but even here we have good turn outs for anti war protests, with about the same positive results from drivers. Keep up the good work, thanks, and peace be with you.

4. Man, you're lucky. La Jolla to a small town on another wild coast?
 I wish!

6. Clean air, water, lots of trees, animals, house on spring water,
year round creek, good people and lots of peace.

5. La Jolla is where God has His summer home.
Made an impression on this New Yorker, it did.

8. As a NYer, I resent that remark. My summer home is and will always be
the south shore of LI, NY. Winters can suck, but the summers of my youth were magical.

9. I grew up in Roslyn, Long Island (north shore)

but spent many a summer visiting Jones Beach on the south shore between 1948 and 1958.

As you might guess, I'm an old-time Vietnam war protester.

11. I googled Mac Meda Destruction Company
and found comments to a poster that put up a picture of a Mac Meda (with the La Jolla reference) decal on the back of a vehicle.

What did the decal stand for?

Was Mac Meda the name of a surfer?

I drove by today, but wasn't able to participate.
