1. It says a lot about a person, how they conducted themselves

in their early adult years. I think you can tell a lot about what a person is going to be like by their early 20's. Heck you can usually tell by the time they are 3.

2. Only Because Chickenhawks All But Silenced The Voices Of Veterans
The Bush administration, remarkable for the almost complete lack of veterans, systematically shut out the concerns of veterans even in their own Party - and even from their own State Department!!! Veterans like Powell had forcibly argued that more planning was needed for the post-war scenarios and more allies were needed.

3. If you're going to start two wars and send hundreds of US soldiers to...
...their deaths, don't lie about what you did during the Vietnam war. It's that simple.

4. This is Kerry's strongest issue, along with the environment.
Edwards is okay because he has a valid excuse but Kerry's position as frontrunner is bringing up Bush's background.

12. it was a good issue
until he got home.

Vets that came home proud don't appreciate ones that came home otherwise. They won't usually talk about it but they will act and if Kerry is the nominee, he won't like this expression of opinion.

5. Not generally. That is not unless the candidate makes it an issue
You know, like prancing around in uniform on an aircraft carrier.

8. I think its a plus if they did something amazing like Kerry...

But it isnt really much of a negative when someone didnt serve.

It didnt really hurt Clinton.

11. Some Do; Some Don't

Ran into a guy last night who absolutely hates Kerry because Kerry protested the war while our guys were getting shot at. I don't particularly understand this mindset. But it is out there.

The good news is that he and the other Republican in the room despise Bush even more and plan on staying home on election day.
