GOP offer to Dems: Switch parties, make your vote count
The Florida Republican Party is happily shining the spotlight on the turmoil and infighting among Florida and national Democrats over theJan. 29 presidential primary.

Their message?

If the Democrats running for president are going to boycott Florida's primary and the national party doesn't want to count the primary votes, come on over to the GOP.

"There is hope. You'll find it with the Republican Party of Florida," promises a mailer to an undisclosed number of Florida Democrats, with the registration form voters can use to switch party affiliation.

"Now - thanks to their egos and political infighting - you, as a Florida Democrat, may lose your right to vote. No delegates. No votes. Because of the Democrat rules, Democratic presidential candidates say they won't campaign in Florida - they'll only raise money here," says the mailer.

Because the GOP declined to say how many voters will get fliers, or how those voters were chosen, it's unclear if the party really expects to woo new members or is simply seizing on the moment to further publicize the Democrats' problems.

The Democratic National Committee, trying to exert some control over the nominating process, allows only four states - Iowa, Nevada, New Hampshire and South Carolina -- to schedule primaries or caucuses before Feb. 5.

Because Florida Democrats won't disavow the Jan. 29 primary set by the Legislature this year, the DNC will strip the state of its 210 delegates to the national convention. Sen. Bill Nelson, himself a Democrat, said Tuesday that he intends to sue now that DNC chairman Howard Dean rebuffed the latest demand to back off the punishment of Florida Democrats.

And in case the loss of delegates weren't enough punishment to Florida Democrats, all the leading presidential candidates have pledged to the four early states not to campaign in Florida until after Jan. 29. The boycott starts Monday. Raising Florida money is fine, however, and the campaigns say they are seeing little backlash over the boycott from Florida donors.

3. Yeah! But what Democrat wants to vote for one of the pitiful Republican candidates.
I guess this is an invitation to write in a Democratic candidate at the Florida Republican primary election.

4. No, no! Do it. Change parties.
And then write in Edwards or Hillary or Obama in the Republican primary. If enough Florida Democrats switch parties and vote in the Republic primary, then maybe a Democrat could even win enough votes to win a delegate or two to the Republican national convention.

15. Write-ins in Florida do not count if the candidate has not registered as a write-in candidate
Since the Democratic candidates won't even campaign here, it seems unlikely that they would do this.

6. So by saying that...
It would be just fine for a Repub to sneak their way in and screw up our votes?

All I have to say is cripes...no wonder our country is in such trouble.

No matter how much I disagree with someone, I would never try to "screw up" something.

Unlike others I can name, I would like to win fair and square.

8. Sorry, but NOTHING is fair and square in politics today!
It's win by whatever means, although I believe it should certainly be legal means! No screwing around with the voting machines, or the voter lists etc. You have to fight fire with fire, and the Dems need to recognize that. Look what happened in Ct. and Leiberman!

If we can screw up the Pub primary, I say go for it!

10. Well we'll just have to agree to disagree...
This part hits me hard...

"It's win by whatever means"

I'm sorry, but even if something is legal...it can still be unethical and immoral. My personal view (Yes personal...I wouldn't ask you to change yours) is that it's not just a change in power that needs to happen to save our country, but a change in the way things are done.

Part of that is decency, honesty, and being able to look at yourself in the mirror.

11. I agree with your phylosophy but there are just too many people
who do not. If we are fighting against liers and completely unethical and imoral people, playing the good guy card just isn't going to win.

The Pubs keep repeating "they are the party of moral values". Well, I sure haven't see that! When you have a WH that "secretly" tells Congress there is a direct threat on the Capital and we need the spying bill to pass or America is going to be hit again, THEN it turns out to be a hoax, do you honestly believe the Dems can fight against that kind of behavior with honesty. ethics, and morals?

Sorry, but sometimes, when your opposition is fighting in the mud, you have to get down in that mud to win.
