Missed vote percentages for candidates in the Senate as of 9/24/07
http://mediamatters.org/items/200709240004

The U.S. Senate has held 346 votes so far this season. Here's how often senators who are presidential candidates were absent during these votes.

DEMOCRATS

Joseph Binden (D-Del.)

28.6%

Votes missed: 99

Christopher Dodd (D-Conn.)

27.7%

Votes missed: 96

Barack Obama (D-Ill.)

23.7 %

Votes missed: 82

Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.)

8.1%

Votes missed: 28

REPUBLICANS

John McCain (R-Ariz.)

49.4 %

Votes missed: 171

Sam Brownback (R-Kan.)

36.1%

Votes missed: 125

Biden fans should be a bit wary of waving the absentee flag at Obama.

1. It would be interesting, though
to see a breakdown of what bills those missed votes related to.

2. Obama has missed three times the number Hillary has
He obviously doesn't take his job as Senator seriously. :)

(Playing offense like this is fun!)

3. If you don't vote, then nothing can be held against you, just ask Obama.

12. sure I do. When he wasn't there, campaigning was more important...
...than his job. When he was there, he'd stepped out for a smoke.

15. No, you have no idea WHY he didn't vote.
And your arbitrary assignment of rationale excavated from your own mind is nothing short of opportunistic.

Oh, the faux outrage!

20. Pulling random rationale out of your arse doesn't count.
What don't you understand about that?

You seem to have a bit of trouble with REALITY today.

18. Missing votes is a time honored method -
of evaluating candidates/elected reps. Apparently people here at the DU don't like the standard yardstick.

I am glad this was posted as I have wondered about Obama's attendance since he skipped out on the Moveon vote.

You better brush up on your Obama-bashing, because that was seriously lame.

10. On the Kyl-Lieberman amendment - yes.
On other bills, while his vote may not have been the tie breaker, it would have been nice for him to be there even understanding the demands of campaigning. The MoveOn resolution was a different story.

14. The difference is I understand the strains of campaigning --
and don't stand in judgment of any of those running. None of us have a clue, although some here are Clarissa Explains It All incarnate, why votes aren't cast.

It is nothing short of opportunistic to assign those reasons arbitrarily and then use our self-manufactured barb as a weapon.

13. It's not the # of votes missed, but the content of the votes that were missed.
If they are voting on a bridge to nowhere, that is totally different than a vote to tighten the screws on Iran.

22. Honestly, the number doesn't matter to me.
The content does. Why should I give a shit if someone missed a vote on a non-binding resolution? Let's see who missed what, and then judge the senators.
