Poll question: What should Obama have done today?:
He's been heavily criticised on DU for not voting on the Biden/Boxer/Brownback/Kerry amendment and the Kyle /Liberman amendment.

4. If he doesn't think being a Senator is important enough
To do his job when there are important votes, he doesn't show me he think being prez is important either.

Besides, he should have been there and shown leadership by helping get votes for or against amendents.

In stead he is missing in action. Not a good way to gain support.

8. How the hell so? Hell--HC pissed me off big, but at least she went on the record.
Obama proved himself a chickenshit.

I'm undecided, but two contenders slid WAAAAAAAAAAAY down the scale this morning.

9. Could his presence change the vote? NO
So, he did the right thing, assuming he issues a statement saying what he would have voted.

No according to you. We do the right thing because it is right! That is all.

15. McCain is my senator and he does just that.
Won't go on record when it really matters if it's apt to upset the middle.

11. Democratic leaders usually have a good idea on how the vote will play out
If it looks like it will be close, senators (especially those on the campaign trail) will rush immediately to the Senate. If their vote won't make a difference they'll stay on the campaign trail.

Don't any of you guys remember this happening to Edwards and Kerry the last time?

12. It's important to go on the record when these critical votes are
on the line. Even if the outcome doesn't change. Obama hurt his cause by not voting on these bills today. Personally, with modern day communication technology, I don't know why a Congressperson can't vote over a secure network from any place in the world.

17. How do you even know he had the option of returning?
By the time he found out, it may have been too late for him to return and vote. I wonder how many people voting that he should have been there would say the same for their own candidate in these circumstances. I'm guessing it's somewhere around 0.

their jobs?

Biden
Clinton
Dodd

And they're all running for President too!

20. Did they have an event in NH during the day, too?
I don't think so. So your comparison is false. You're trying to frame it as an issue of whether he had the time, but that's not what the issue is.
He didn't know the vote was going to be today and had an event during the day. So by the time he found out, it was too late to return. That's not true for any other candidate, other than perhaps McCain, who also missed the vote.

23. Okay. If your comfortable with that reasoning then so am I
Although I wonder if the other Senators didn't cancel their planned events in New Hampshire in order to be in D.C. to vote.

Are you certain they didn't have events planned?

I'm not anti-Obama, I don't have a candidate yet. I actually supported him when he didn't vote on the whole Move-On debacle. But I believe he should have been in D.C. for both of the votes today.

26. I was wondering that myself.
Let's see;

1.Cancel appearnaces at the very last minute, therbyupsetting the people who arranged them

2. Get from wherever you are in New HAmpshire to an airport

3. Get a last minute flight to Washington which proabably involves transferring planes at Boston.

Maybe it just wasn't doable.

21. He didn't do his job on the Moveon ad vote (he was in DC that day.)
He and Biden showed no guts at all on that day.

Although today's skipped vote was less egregious than that, at least he's being consistent in missing votes.

28. Sept 22nd - Biden cancels campaign event due to important Senate vote
Sep. 22: When presidential hopeful and Delaware Sen. Joe Biden was called back to Washington D.C. for Senate business Friday, his younger sister and campaign National Chair Valerie Biden Owens stepped in at campaign events in Iowa.

It can be done people, for important votes.

34. Apparently the poll is no good because I left out the most important choice:

3. Keep his sick self in bed until he gets over the stomach virus he picked up.

I've seen a lot of cynical comments about this, but consider his risk factors:

Shaking hands of strangers all day

Running himself ragged campaigning

Eating who knows what on the road

Being father of two young children!
