Dean Supporters! Get your vulture repellent here!
Okay you guys. THIS SUCKS! I'm really sorry 'bout Howard - I absolutely mean that. I have an idea of how you feel, but I'm sure it's not the magnitude that you are experiencing today. After all, Dean was the FIRST grassroots/Internet guy, and your alliance goes much further back than mine did with Clark.

So today it's all "Who ya gonna vote for? Hmm? Hmm?" We gots us some polls, and we gots us some "Welcome Deans for X" and we even gots us some, "So are you going 3rd party?" This is so much worse than what we Clark folks got the day he withdrew.

Do you feel like road-kill yet? Can you feel the breeze from the wings of the vultures waiting to feed on the carcass of your dreams? ARGH!

Listen, it's okay to eat ice-cream out of the carton today. It's okay to put on your jammies and leave them on through the weekend (yes, I'll write you a doctor's statement.) It's okay to listen to some old journey records and shuffle around the house in a daze. It's okay to be really angry, and really sad, and really displaced.

But you DON'T have to be a "Dean for" anybody! Last time I checked, this was Democratic Underground. If you're a Dem, you have an affiliation, and by GOD that should be good enough for any poster here.

It took me awhile to warm up to Kerry - I didn't jump ship because Clark said so, but I did take a few days after the shock wore off to see if I could even support another candidate. No one is forcing your hand, y'all. You just remind them that you have vulture repellent, and you are prepared to use it. And if you run low, I got your back!

Peace to you!

Thanks for your support. Your posts are always uplifting. I am never giving up my fight for Dean or the grassroots movement.

I have decided I will support the DEM nominee with my vote in NOV. but right now that's all the effort and energy I could put into the election/primary right now. I hope everyone understands.

5. As a Canadian supporter of Dean........
I'm sad and disillusioned, and more than a little angry and disgusted over the biased and unfair treatment of Howard Dean. The man had a MESSAGE that was totally ignored and dismissed by the so-called media. I consider myself to be a fine judge of character and this guy WAS the real deal. I don't know, maybe 2004 is not his year. :(

Maybe the United States really doesn't deserve a man this open and honest. (is that too blunt or cruel? perhaps)
:(

10. I think you're right Darth
I've been so sad all day, and am really wondering if americans deserve a man like Howard Dean. I mean, so he talked off the top of his head and said what he meant, and that apparently is a bad thing here. It really shouldn't surprise me - look who we've elected before. But I really believed, this time, that something would be different, and Dean is the one who gave me something to believe in.

Now, I believe I'll go home and finish filling out my Canadian immigration papers and sign up for the weekend Vancouver sun so I can start looking for a job again. (after I eat a whole carton of ice cream and finish crying my eyes out)

And to all the Dean supporters who didn't get to vote yet - do it anyway. Vote what you believe - you don't have to jump on the bandwagon.

11. NO it's exactly right. The US is full of shallow people who want shallow
politicians. We want someone who *looks Presidential* and speaks without saying much. We simply call it *electablility* here.

As a US citizen I have no problem with your saying what you did.

I really appreciate your post - and you're right on the money with the road kill analogy. I may just have to pick up some ice cream on the way home. and a big stick to beat off the vultures.

26. I was hoping I'd see you here, slinkerwink.
I knew this day would come as soon as he started losing momentum in the primaries. Talk about vultures! So I guess that softened the blow a little (although I will NEVER pass up an excuse to hit the ice cream carton!).

MANY hats off to you and my brother/sister Dean supporters. OUR guy is the one who made it okay to stand up to bush. And don't you EVER forget that.

XOXOXO

8. Thanks Wife, but
I still plan on voting for Dean in the primaries. Dean really hasn't dropped out, he just isn't campaigning. I almost crawled in bed this afternoon, but I am looking forward to what Howie has in mind for his true blue crowd. I'll fall in line in November, but this is one deaniacs who doesn't plan on quitting or staying sad or mad or anything less than helping to take our coountry back.

13. You have kept me going here
for the last few days I must confess. THANK YOU!!!

I am positively an asshole about the Dems who voter FOR the pre-emptive IWR. Impacting mine and many many other families forever like war does. This is very, very hard to know that my vote will probably have to be for a Dem who gave this appointed madman these powers for their own political expediency. The excuses are not working for me. Not today, not tomorrow and I am not even sure if these war voting candidates even care how me and my family feel about their political sellout. Hopefully they will at the very least restore and increase spending on our nations Veterans.

Today I have absolutely no idea what to do. My husband and I are delegates for Dean here in Washington state. We will probably be looking at Kucinich. The one Kucinich delegate from our precinct was such a class act, she spoke about him and his beliefs for America so well. I remember she said "2004 may not be his time, but his time is coming and we will all be better for it."

Dean just tapped into me.

Again thank you for your uplifting and classy posts here.

They have helped me.

Jax

16. Thank you for your uplifting post, it cheered me up

I believe that the true and loyal Dean supporters have a unique type of loyalty. My husband said the dearest thing today after hearing Dean speak: He said, "I sure do hope we will keep seeing Dean and his cheerful, smiling face." He spoke for me. My daughter even called me here in Missouri from California, and told me how sorry she and her husband were about Dean, and for us. He's going to be around for a long time, hopefully.
:hi:

17. You may find that "the afterlife" is pretty rewarding too
Over here in Clarksville there are some very interesting discussions going on as to how to hold on to what we have, flex our organized clout on the local and state level, and target our resources at the national level. (Clark people gave a lot of money to Ben Chandler's campaign, for example, partly at Clark's own post-exit request.) If Deanies keep it together they will be MIGHTY.

25. Awww, that's so sweet, and so appreciated! Thanks! Truly!
I'm down, but not out. Just a little down. Drained. Dejected. Disappointed. No more or less than the Clark or Gephardt people. Or, the Lieberman people, if there were any. I've posted elsewhere MANY times that I will vote for two people: WHOMEVER, or WHOEVER is our nominee. Looks like it's probably gonna be Kerry, although Edwards - I could live with, also. Kerry seems inevitable. Doesn't light my fire like the Good Doctor did, and certainly didn't perform the backbone transplant on our party like the Good Doctor did. But he's got enough to recommend him, also (give or take a couple of obnoxious Kerry people in the Dem-CA groups).

I appreciate their loyalty and fervor, though. I can certainly respect it. I felt that way toward Dean. I still do. He's what ignited our party. Other Dems are standing up to bush because Hollerin' Howard showed 'em the way, and showed 'em they weren't going to be shipped off to Gitmo if they did.

Thanks for this. I'm sure part of my low feeling stems from having had to drop a f---ing fortune at the local outdoor/surplus store for my kid's Boy Scout snow campout this weekend. SHEESH! I'm POOR and dejected. I just hope, if it's Kerry, that he takes on the mantle of Howard Dean's verve and anger and refusal to knuckle under and to say what needs to be said to the bullies trying to run us over, and that if it's Edwards, there'll be a little less of Mr. Nice Guy once he has to face george w. schmuck.

28. Just my 2 cents.
I have been a bit upset at the way you guys have been getting your bones picked today but I expected it. I am anticipating it myself at some point. Hang in there. You all have your own minds and sensibilites and will be able to make them up all by yourselves. If you join me great, you will be welcome, if you do not then fine you will be welcome there and if you stay with Dean then you have made a choice that is good for the party in its own way. Take your time, there is plenty of it still.

29. Hi Wife
We've exchanged a few friendly PM's in the past, and I was glad to see this thread.

I have a few pints of Ben and Jerry's, some Dove chocolate topping, and a big box of Kleenex. Wanna' come over ;-)?

In the meantime, it'll be interesting to see what happens next.
