In VA, GOP Cuts Off Primary Voters In Finding Opponent For Mark Warner
"Virginia Republicans will hold a convention instead of a primary to choose their candidate to succeed retiring Sen. John W. Warner (R-VA), upsetting critics who say it makes the party appear closed off," the AP reports.

Former Gov. Jim Gilmore (R) and Rep. Thomas M. Davis (R-VA) "have expressed interest in seeking the GOP nomination. Supporters of Gilmore wanted a convention, and Davis backers had argued for a primary."

1. Bad news for Davis...and in a strange way for Democrats...
Gilmore is more well known statewide than Davis...this increases the chance Gilmore will get the nomination....

It also increases the chance that the 11th District will not be open next year...Dems would have been the favorites had Davis been the Senate nominee...with Davis there...it will lean Repub...hopefully his wife will go down to defeat next month and this will tarnish his image further...

Warner will kill whichever Republican gets the nod...
