Dean defector: Kerry to get Jewish vote
Howard Dean's former campaign chairman, Steve Grossman, who defected from the campaign before Dean's defeat Tuesday in the Wisconsin primary, has thrown his support behind Sen. John Kerry, and predicted that Kerry "will be able to count on Jewish support, perhaps overwhelmingly," if he wins the nomination as is widely projected.

<snip>

One area where Grossman could perhaps have some added value is in rallying Jewish voters. He said that, through his Senate voting record over almost two decades and public speeches, Kerry has demonstrated that his support for the US-Israel relationship is "unshakable." Grossman predicted that Kerry would receive in excess of 70 percent of the Jewish vote in November.

"That might be less than Gore got in 2000 or Clinton got against Dole in '96, because obviously there are some in the Democratic world, or Independent world, in the pro-Israel world, who have positive feelings about what Bush has done vis- -vis Israel and they're going to be with Bush even though they would normally support a Democrat. There will be some in that group and I don't know how many.

"But I think the historic support that Jews have given Democratic nominees for president will continue in this case and that John Kerry will be able to count on Jewish support, perhaps overwhelmingly, not only because of his past record on those issues but because of what he will say and articulate publicly during this campaign," Grossman said.

1. Thank you Steve Grossman for speaking for me!
Thank you also for confirming my suspicions that a vote for Kerry is a vote for the status quo in the Middle East.

2. Not true. Kerry also has broad support from the Arab community
and has never taken a dime of AIPAC money...go check their site.

13. here ya go
John Kerry sees the Bush Administration's road map - albeit long overdue - as an acceptable approach for reinvigorating the peace process. http://johnkerry.com/issues/foreignpolicy/

19. Most of the Arab-American groups in SE Michigan
Endorsed Dennis Kucinich, mainly because of his views on the "war on terror" and the PATRIOT Act.

6. AIPAC rules.
And Kerry would have the U. S. be the same "honest broker" that Bush is. <heavy heart here>

the more things change, the more they stay the same...or somethin' like that.

Fortunately, the Jewish vote is not all for AIPAC.In the primaries, some cooler heads may still be heard above the din of "electability." There are some who are for peace.

7. One of the realities of assembling a broad coalition
is that not everybody likes each other. But the point is not to have a mutual admiration society, but to elect a Democrat to the White House.

9. And that Democrat ought to be Dennis Kucinich, but I settle for Edwards.
I don't think John Forbes Kerry will change Bush's policy in the Middle East.

Both major parties have failed miserably on the Middle East!

11. Your wife is behind the times.
DK: Roe vs. Wade approval a litmus test for the Supreme Court.

No other candidate comes close.

14. Right. Principled stands and all.
If Kerry and Edwards are on the hook for IWR, DK is on the hook for the Global Gag Rule. He's got the best position on almost every other issue, but he doesn't get a free pass.

16. John Kerry has
he said it long time ago. he would only nominate those who support ro v wade to the supreme court. also, he would only vote for those who do as senator.

12. I remember criticizing Dean about him.

So it really wasn't my favorite news either.

I guess it serves me right for using the bogus guilt-by-association argument.
