Voting for your beliefs sure beats backing a winner
http://www.cleveland.com/news/plaindealer/jim_strang/index.ssf?/base/opinion/1077186701165380.xml
excerpt:

If I were a Democrat, I'd vote for Dennis Kucinich for
president.

I'm not, and I won't. His politics and mine, for the most part, are polar
opposites.

But if I were heir to the
populism of Andy Jackson and
FDR, of W.E.B. DuBois and
John L. Lewis, well, the favorite
son of this gritty, old steel town
would be the candidate for me.

3. In The Primaries, I Agree 110%
In the primaries, sure thing.

This year, in the General Election, I'd argue that voting your beliefs will definitely lead to you backing a winner...unfortunately that winner will be George W. Bush.

4. Unfortunately, I'm afraid you're right,
which is why we have to (sigh) be practical this time around, because the country simply cannot survive another four (hell, even another two) years of the Bushistas.

The Plain Dealer is my local paper and I read this this morning. I'm glad the OP posted it, I wanted to, but, techno-dummy that I am, I had no idea how to post the link. It'll be interesting to see what kind of reaction he gets, because people around here have a polarizing reaction to Dennis, they either love him or hate him and call him a clown, a buffoon, etc., etc.

5. I remember when Jesse Jackson was a candidate
was that 88? I can't remember. It was really cool to vote for him in the primary and then see him at the convention. I don't agree with all of his views, but it was inspiring to see him at the convention and see how excited his supporters were, and how empowered they felt. It feels better if you vote your conscience, but I really do not want to see * re-elected. And having a Dem in there really does make a difference, whether he (or someday, hopefully, she) went to Yale or not.

7. maybe this isn't what you meant but, if you want to put a link in your
message, all you have to do is highlight the http etc. address at the top of the page you want to link, then copy it, and paste it into the Message body.

8. This article is saying something important. It deserves some serious
attention from Democrats. The writer expresses very clearly his view - which I wholly agree with - that most rank & file Democrats don't have the guts to vote for what they really believe in. Therefore, they're not really entitled to feel disappointed, later, when they wind up not getting what they really want.

9. I don't know that I agree with that notion.
I think it is just the opposite. I am of the belief that democrats are a diverse group and that is what makes it hard to unify. I don't think democrats rally around one issue like the republicans do. Look at the recent example, the republicans are not happy with the fiscal irresponsibility of the administration and they are questioning Iraq, so what does the chimp do? He screams FMA. He pulls them all together with that one silly issue.

Democrats I don't think are like that. Democrats are diverse. This year I think it is different. I see the democrats coming together for one reason and one reason only, to send the corrupt administration packing.
