Phone calls to Iowa voters: should Edwards be home with his sick wife?

I heard a snippet this morning on MSNBC. Did anyone else hear anything about it?

It's a damn dirty trick and I hope whoever did it gets caught.

and so has Marc Ambinder. It was a type of negative messaging poll about both Clinton and Edwards but they still haven't discovered who's behind it.

Central Marketing: Not us


OK, for the three people still following this story, I just got a call from Carol McMahon, the president of Central Marketing, the New York call center also known as Central Research.

"You can't pin this one on me," she said. "I'm not doing any political work in Iowa."

She specifically denied that her firm placed the Elizabeth Edwards calls, and suggested that somebody else was using their generic-sounding name.

"That's a terrible thing to say about a woman with cancer," she said.

Back to square one?

ALSO: Robert Longman, the president of Iowa pollster Central Surveys says it wasn't his poll, and that he hasn't done any political polling this fall.

And Scott Dillard, vice president of an Arkansas debt collection company called Central Research, which operates call centers, said they don't do this sort of work, and that this wasn't theirs.

16. This stuff happens

Back in '03 I had a little website that wasn't too favorable to Dean and I remember someone on his blog looked up the whois to my site and published my nam address and tel. number (had I known better I would have paid more to make those confidential) and then I got a bunch of angry phone calls. It would be bad if one of the campaing were doing this, but I doubt it is. Probably just some deranged right winger.

This same sort of shit happened to Howard Dean in Iowa in 2004.

What a sorry-assed thing to do. I hope we get to the bottom of this.

It's interesting that just as John Edwards begins to get his second wind in Iowa that this shit starts up. I have my suspicions on this already.

My daughter died in 2004 from canceer , she was only ill for about 6 weeks, people from her company came in almost every day, they brought their lunch and had lunch with her , they brought their dinner and had dinner with her she knew people from her work from all over the state, and they came from all over the state, first the rooms walls were filled with cards, then the room was filled with flowers, she said to me I never knew I had so many friend, and let me tell you they talked shop almost every day. They made her last days a litte easier for her and the family, She wasn't married, they were her family, when I told her she could retire if she needed, she came back to me very sharply, I want to go to work as soon as I can... I think John Edwards is doing the thing that Elizabeth going on the road, with the children and being closer probably than they would have been at home....

On her first radium treatment, one of the nurses told her hurry and get to your room, there are about 10 or 15 can't remember the exact men waiting for you, they aren't rednecks they all have on dress clothing with ties, there was a sales meeting in our area on that day... they spoke to her and she just talked shop, I would have thought she wouldn't be able , however they s poke a few words and then left her so she could rest...Elizabeth is doing the best thing, and I applaud her for doing so
