1. Everything's coated with ice out here near Omaha--I couldn't
even walk outside, had to "skate" and shuffle. Not lookin' good for any kind of travel right now.

The Heartland Presidential Forum is ON!

Posted by: Campaign for Community Values , December 01, 2007

No matter the weather, the Heartland Presidential Forum is happening, indoors, at HyVee Hall. The rally and march, which was to be held outdoors, will not be happening, but the Forum is still scheduled to start at 1:30CST sharp.

As I write, the staff of CCC and Iowa CCI, along with our production team over at HyVee hall, are finishing our final preparations for the Heartland Forum. While it may be a bit chilly outside here in Des Moines, the Forum is happening regardless of rain, snow or hail tommorrow.

6. Looks like Richardson made a good call. He's campaigning in New Hampshire today.
No big storms in that state today.

5. They are trying to figure out a way for Hillary to appear by satellite, according to MSNBC (I think)
She was still in New Hampshire this morning. The rest of the candidates must already be there.

8. We are having a vicious winter storm. Anyone who travels today is a fool.
For any reason. The roads are a mess. The windows are coated with ice on the east side of the house. It's a good day to hole up with a book and forget about political infighting. Mulled wine and comfort food for the day. And a good movie this afternoon.

Stay home, Iowans, unless you have an emergency and need to go out.

9. Des Moines Regiser: Candidates Cancel Some Iowa Stops
Candidates cancel some Iowa stops

REGISTER STAFF REPORTS • December 1, 2007

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney has canceled his campaign swing through southern Iowa today because of weather-related road conditions, and Sen. Hillary Clinton has dropped plans to appear at a forum today in Des Moines.

Romney, a Republican presidential candidate, was scheduled to visit Indianola, Osceola and Chariton with a series of "Ask Mitt Anything" public forums, and a meet-and-greet at an Osceola coffee house.

The campaign had no immediate plans to reschedule, said spokesman Tim Albrecht.

Clinton said she was no longer planning to appear at the Heartland Forum that was to feature Democratic presidential candidates today in Des Moines. She also postponed a separate campaign stop scheduled for Sunday in Des Moines, but still planned to attend events in Cedar Rapids and Bettendorf.

10. More from The Times' Adam Nagourney via The Page: Edwards and Obama will be there.
There is -– was? -– one Democratic forum and one debate today. Mrs. Clinton had already cancelled out of the first one, to deal with the aftermath of the hostage-taking at her New Hampshire office. Her aides said her appearance at the second -– the Black and Brown presidential forum here -– is weather-dependent.

John Edwards of North Carolina is in the house, and is planning –- his aides said -– to make both forums. He also made an appearance before an “Every Child Matters” forum that took place this morning, but it was on the Drake University campus and was mostly attended by students who ambled over from their dorm rooms in sweat pants and jeans.

Aides to Senator Barack Obama report that he too is in Des Moines and is planning to attend the afternoon forum and the evening debate. So at least SOMEONE will be there.

11. My gosh, it is sunny and 70F on the Tennessee River today! I do not
miss being behind the snowplow to get to work just 20 miles from the city in Omaha, at all!
