I went to my town hall yesterday. I told the lady at the reception desk that I wanted to vote on October 28, 2008, because I was sick of the candidates not paying attention to me. I explained that if I voted earlier then they would be more concerned about my needs becuase of the influence my early vote might have on others.
She suggested I get an absentee ballot. I refused because it wouldn't be counted until the normal election day, thus it would not serve the purpose I wanted to achieve.
She said that the election was scheduled for November 4th and that I would not be able to vote on October 28th. This made me upset. Then I threatened to march into the town hall with a ballot and a CNN correspondent on Oct. 28th and chain myself to the door until it was counted.
She didn't seem to care that she was taking away my right to vote... what a fascist. Just because a vote comes in early and doesn't come in on the day picked by some guy I didn't elect, doesn't mean it shouldn't count.
Get a load of this, then she said I could have "lobbied to change the laws beforehand". She lectured me about how "everyone has to follow the rules." What a load of bull.
I am outraged by this blatant disenfranchisement... I thought this country was about democracy! Now just because I decide to vote a week early, my voice will be shut out of this election. Disgusting! The town hall should be ashamed of itself.
