Edwards is new Iowa leader in male support
Edited on Sat Dec-01-07 10:26 PM by itsrobert
"Edwards, who finished second in the 2004 caucuses, led narrowly among men in the new poll and was tied with Clinton for the favorite in Iowa's rural areas. Rural Centerville Democrat Candace Scritchfield supported Edwards in 2004 and plans to again."

regarding his own record.

5. That's great news for Edwards as long as no women show up
lmao, you had to go right down to the bottom of the article just to find that one little spot of bright light for Johnny Boy. Funny how the title of the article reads, "Obama pulls ahead for Democrats in Iowa Poll".

8. Edwards only 2pts behind Hillary
That's another bright spot. Hillary was at 29pts, she is at 25 now. Edwards maintains his 23 pt base and is now poise to pass Senator Clinton. That's good news.

Edited on Sat Dec-01-07 10:47 PM by BeyondGeography
He has been in the state for four years and he's not growing his base. High five!

The Onion headline is:

Edwards big winner in poll that shows him stuck in 3rd place

15. Money spent, and what it's gotten them.
Iowa Caucus - Democrats

Hillary Clinton - 27%
Barack Obama - 25%
John Edwards - 24%
Bill Richardson - 10%
Joe Biden - 4%
Other - 2%

Undecided - 8%

But, and this is VERA important...

Iowa Caucus - Democrats (Second Choice Polling)

John Edwards - 28%
Barack Obama - 18%
Hillary Clinton - 16%
Bill Richardson - 15%

How much have they spent in Iowa?
Obama 3.1 mil (Aprox)*
Hillary 1.6 mil (Aprox)*
Edwards 0.6 mil (Aprox)*

*Aprox. because I have not looked at the numbers in a few days. Feel free, but those numbers are pretty close. You don't get those numbers in votes, by spending a fraction of your opponents, without having some substance behind you message. That's just what I think.

Money raised:
90 mil for Hillary
80 mil for Obama
30 mil for Edwards

I like a candidate who can get the most bang from his buck.

12. After living in Iowa for 4 straight years, Edwards should be ahead of everyone by double digits
not in 3rd place "only 2pts behind Hillary".

Your faux-progressive candidate is barely making a blip on the radar screen anymore.

11. Change "He" to "She" and you might be right
Hillary's support seems to be slipping, and not too slowly. Edwards and Obama are picking up support. Among DUers, Edwards is the favorite. And I know, DU does not represent the average democrat, they represent the hardcore democratic political junkie. You know, the type that actually attends caucuses.

16. That's right, we're all racist and sexist
And that's the only reason we're supporting John Edwards, because he's white and male. It's got nothing to do with issues.

You know who I wish would have run for president in '08? Russ Feingold. Damn, another white male. I guess I really am racist and sexist, huh?

But you know what? I'd have no problem voting for John Conyers. Or Barbara Boxer. And you know what else? There's a black man running this time around who I would be proud to support. Shit. Maybe I'm not so racist and sexist after all. But of course I'd only support Obama if something were to happen to my first choice, who is my first choice based solely on his paleish tone and his penis.

Shit, come to think of it, maybe I should just be a republican. They've got nothing but white males over there.

But hey! Ever notice how many of Hilary's supporters are women? What's up with that?

17. you're reading waaay too much into my OP
I'd say the same thing about women lining up for Clinton, or African-Americans lining up for Obama (and if Clinton weren't in the race, he'd have much larger African-American support) If Russ Feingold ran, he'd have huge support from the Jewish Community. To a large degree, that's just how it works.

19. "if Clinton weren't in the race, he'd have much larger African-American support"
Doesn't that statement serve to somewhat disprove your argument?

And as far as my reading waaaay too much into your post, was there a different way to take it? I mean, why did you say it if the implication wasn't that Edwards was leading among men in Iowa based predominantly on his maleness? And then you brought race into it where it was never even mentioned before, but I'll argue the demographics of Iowa with you another time.

Of course I do understand where you're coming from, but I think a "just like us!" factor plays a smaller role than you think. In fact, the theory that Feinglod would automatically have huge support from the Jewish community, I think many Jewish people would find insulting. Such a statement could feasibly be called racist. Not that I'm calling you racist, I've read enough of your posts to know better, but some could read it that way. I don't know a lot about the Jewish community, but I think there's a fair number of conservative Jews out there, and they aren't going to be voting for Feingold. And Feingold, being pretty damn far to the left, would probably even not get the votes of some moderate democrat Jews.

Funny thing is, when I brought Feingold up, I wasn't even thinking of his Jewishness. I was just thinking of him as a white male liberal. Believe it or not, that Feingold is a Jewish name had never even occurred to me. That makes me feel pretty good. I'm proud of me for that.

20. Jews overwhelmingly vote dem. Have for decades and decades
The only group that votes more overwhelmingly for dems is African-Americans. That's not even a little bit racist or anti-semitic. Simply factual. As for Clinton, she's reaping the benefit of her husband's enormous popularity with the African-American community and the perception that she's more electable than he is. I don't think many Jewish people would be offended by my comment. The fact is that Jewish Americans vote dem by a heavy majority and identity politics is a real factor.

21. So then when you said...
...that Feingold would have huge support among the Jewish community you meant just because he was a democrat? Because the point you seemed to be making was that Jews would vote for him just because he was Jewish. And that's what I think they might find offensive.

And yes, I know that all minorities tend to vote democratic. They'd be silly not to. But I don't think many people actually vote based on race or sex. Clinton support in the black community strongly supports this. There's surely some who do, but their numbers are probably less than significant. I don't know, it just seems like you're not giving American voters enough credit.

18. Love The Feingold Reference... I'd Bet Many Would Change Their
"white boy" views if HE was running!!! And as a "white" female who has commented about how SO MANY MANY white men have screwed this country to a fare thee well for far too many years, Feingold, Sanders and Wellstone would get my vote in heart-beat!!
