UNITED STATES vs John Lennon
So, my husband & I were watching this documentary on VH1 yesterday. You should see this if you haven't already. In discussing it afterwards, we were commenting on how the peace movement back then included so many intelligent people. I got to wondering if that is the missing link in organizing now ... that people just aren't as intelligent as they used to be (as WE were). I think all this goes back to the "dumbing down of America." Sure, Nixon did nefarious things, but the anti-war people were so smart & so savvy, that he was caught. There are plenty of interviews with John Dean, etc. in this documentary too. The contrast between then & now is just so stark that it's shocking. Anyone else see this documentary? Your comments? And how do we smarten up the population?

2. This has been debated here on DU
and let me preface this by saying I don't want to revive it - the draft was so instrumental in getting the young people against the war. David Crosby and Graham Nash talked with Tweety, and Crosby said essentially that the college campuses here in the States would stop being apathetic and we'd see more involvement from students in the anti war movement if the draft was reestablished.

3. Mr Crosby is right

It's a no-brainer that this generation only thinks of war as a video game-until, or unless it's their lives, friends and blood on the line. If the draft affected them, there would be a REAL anti-war movement.

4. May have something to do with the flouride they put in the water..
It was first used in Russia to tame the cows so they were docile when the bulls wanted to mate.. then they used it on their prisoners to keep them quiet and controlled... it was next used in Germany to keep the prisoners at concentration camps at bay... Now, we buy the hazardous waste with our tax dollars to infuse into the drinking water so somehow, it prevents tooth decay... Don't understand how ingesting water with flouride into one's body makes it ok for teeth.. and now they say not to give infants under age 2 fouride water because it causes dental flourosis and brittle bones (good luck to the many mother's who mix their infant formula with boiled tap water--the flouride doesn't boil out). There are also studies that have linked it to rare bone cancer in male youths... Anyway.. its a drug, and it makes you placated.. add onto that the many pharmaceuticals now available and the lack of non-GMO organic foods, and you have a mix for bad health. Then you put unrealistic standards on schools, give them no funds, and provide them books produced out of the Bush family scholastic sector, along with lack of proper supervision because parents are too damned tired working their 3rd job, and you have a model for disaster....

Its not that people want to be less educated or pay more attention, we just don't have the time. When I was in college, I worked 40hrs too (10 yrs ago). I didn't have extra time to run to a rally or sit on the lawn demonstrating anything.. I had to pay for my rent and part of my tuition.... My mom went for free and had a part-time on campus job that paid her... She came out on the plus side, not the negative. She had time to run around and socialize and think... Most people don't.
