Eye on the Prize: A post in GD that frames the REAL STAKES in this election

I hope this is kosher, but it seems appropriate after reading so many threads here about who was thinking about being president in their mother's womb, or who is being meaner to his or her primary opponent.

It's time for a reality check about what the stakes are.

The thread above was posted by Phoebe Loosinhouse in General Discussion.

Although it is not about the election per se, it does frame what should be a core issue in the nominating process and in the GE next year.

This is the kind of thing for which all candidates should be having their feet put to the fire about.

What do the candidates plan to do (or not do) about this core and longstanding malfunction in the American economy and in our values on a systemic basis?

That's what we should be pressing all of them on.

1. Hey thanks for the post.
I couldn't agree more. In fact I will go as far as saying that the economic mess this country finds itself in should be as equally important as our foreign policy disaster, period. I have watched every single debate, democratic and republican alike and the economy hasn't gotten a lick of face time. I don't know crap about economics but it doesn't take a PHD to realize that credit always will run out.

3. They ought to be looking at it holistically
rather than simply pluck out specific symptoms, they all need to be hammering home the need for more systemic reforms.
