Ras POLL: Obama within seven points of Hillary (33 / 26), Edwards at 15
Edited on Thu Dec-06-07 11:34 AM by jefferson_dem
The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Thursday shows Barack Obama within seven points of Hillary Clinton in the race for the Democratic Presidential Nomination. It’s Clinton 33%, Obama 26%, Edwards 15%, and Bill Richardson at 6%. (see recent daily numbers). These figures mark the second time in a week that Obama has pulled to within single digits of Clinton. Clinton leads by fifteen percentage points among white voters but trails by nine among all other voters.

New data released today shows that Clinton has lost her lead over Obama in the South Carolina Primary but the former First Lady still leads Rudy Giuliani and Mitt Romney in general election match-ups. Clinton, Obama, and John Edwards are locked in a tight battle leading up to the Iowa caucuses. Clinton still leads in New Hampshire, but her lead is declining. The former First Lady of both Arkansas and the United States recently stepped up her attacks on Obama in Iowa.

1. Iowa is a dead heat. South Carolina, apparently, is up in play. And the national polls?
My god, we've got ourselves a horse race boys and girls.

2. "the former First Lady still leads Rudy Giuliani and Mitt Romney in general election match-ups. "
Interesting to see Obama supporters flip-flopping on the validity of Rasmussen polls.

They want to be led "not by polls, but by principle; not by calculation, but by conviction." -Barack Obama

He said that back when he was way down in most all polls...

3. Obama strongest candidate for Dems electorally
First, I admit I am pro-Obama, and contribute (small donations) to his campaign. I have never had any particular position on Rassmussen's polls incidentally, although polls -- this included -- must all be taken with a grain of salt, especially in primaries and well before the vote. The trends are important, and the situation very volatile.

Obama is a candidate that seems to grow on voters over time, which is why I think he would be the strongest candidate for Nov 08. I know that the positive qualities he has (projecting a sense of leadership) are less tangible than demographics (emphasized by Edwards) or resume (whether honestly presented or not) etc. But in the general way people decide voting, it would matter most in a clinch.

Obviously, some kind of bombshell revelation ABOUT ANYONE could change the picture, but that is what I see over time w/Obama

I also believe he would be the most pragmatic and least ideological or shallowly opportunistic of the leading Democratic Party contenders.

And yes, my positions are closer to (to the left of) Kucinich. But if you are going to be involved with the Democrats, you need to think about the possibility of winning (if it's still up in the air) -- that's the whole point of the involvement.....

5. edwards is steady and close
looks soft support has bled from Clinton went a little to Obama and Edwards but mostly to undecided. If someone isn't crippled after Iowa, then this could remain 3-way till Feb 5th.

Go Edwards!!!!!!!!

10. WOW!!!!! Hillary AND Bill are messing up by trying to attack Obama's character, blaming the media,
(Hillary the attacker and Bill the blamer) and just seeming to be flailing around trying to re-gain their "inevitability" factor. Forget it-it's GONE! "Barack's how I roll!"

13. It's like watching someone in quicksand. She's sinking fast.
I hope Bill keeps blaming the media (for having the "nerve" to record his words) and Hillary keeps attacking Obama on his character. We see the results. :D
