Poll: Dean far ahead among Democratic candidates in Wisconsin
MILWAUKEE - Former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean has taken a big lead among Democratic presidential hopefuls in Wisconsin, a poll indicates.

The poll conducted Sunday through Tuesday by University of Wisconsin political scientist Ken Goldstein showed Dean was supported by 33 percent of those questioned.

That compared with Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman 12 percent, retired Gen. Wesley Clark 11 percent, Missouri Rep. Dick Gephardt 9 percent, Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry 6 percent, Ohio Rep. Dennis Kucinich 3 percent, North Carolina Sen. John Edwards 2 percent and former Illinois Sen. Carol Mosely Braun 1 percent.

The poll of 402 likely Democratic presidential primary voters is listed as having a margin of error of plus or minus 5 percentage points.

In the same poll in September, 32 percent were undecided. Clark had 18 percent, Lieberman 14 percent and Dean was third at 13 percent.
--------------------

Dean jumps 20 points from 3rd place to 1st in 3 months; Clark is down 7 points and Lieberman 2 points. The Wisconsin primary is February 17th.

8. no you are wrong
Perhaps 45% here hate Dean. You are not including MOST of America that would rather vote for Bush then Dean. Try to think out of the box.

5. I respect General Clark too.
And that's in spite of my animus toward the DLC/DNC. Regardless that, the candidate that will get my vote in 11/2004 will have a (D) behind their name - baby steps and all. :)

6. Could you please explain why Dean can't beat Bush?
I do not see how Dean has a worse shot of beating Bush than the other candidates.

9. Two words: Crossover Appeal
In no particular order, General Clark owns guns, is from the south, served his country and is a war hero. Say what you will, but this stuff appeals to a lot of people on the fence.

10. I respect your opinion.
Personally, I find the 200+ mill Dean is going to raise against Bush, plus the oceans of foot people he will bring to the process, a delicious thought.

12. Dean is a Fundraising Fool
No question about it. I'll vote for him over Bush (although Lieberman probably won't). I'm just saying from talking to my republican friends, they are sweating Clark and donating to Dean. Hmmm...

Your republican friends are donating to Dean? Right. You know, it's easy enough to check that, have you?

14. Crossover Appeal?
Dean has an A rating from the NRA (I am not thrilled about it, but hey). Gov. Gean has served his country as an election official for 20 years.

I can not believe that being from the South will make a candidate, merely being from there does not gaurantee victory (as Gore learned in Tennessee).

Clark is a war hero, and Dean is not. Of course, in the general election, Gore was a Vietnam volunteer, while Bush was a Texas Air Guard deserter and that did not seem to affect either of them. But I must say I have reservations about a candidate whose only governmental experience has been as a military general. Getting things done in the military and getting things done in politics are two completely seperate feats.

Dean has articulated a domestic policy that I like, whereas lark has yet to make up his mind about many issues. And that worries me as well.

15. Three of those actually belong to the same category though.
So you may as well say that he's military and he's from the south.

13. Have you seen the NBC poll?
While Dean is doing better than Clark there, the evidence taken as a whole illustrates the candidates poll close together.

16. Not really proof
A poll 11 months away from the general election with Dean and Clark in the MoE is not really proof of Clark being able to beat Bush when Dean can't.

7. Why?
If you have some evidence to back that up, I'd like to see it. If it's merely your opinion, I disagree.

22. Congratulations to Dean
Other candidates note: this is the kind of support you can get from very hard work. The results of "appeal" are a little more illusive.
