This is not fascist Germany
We're allowed to be critical of political figures in this country.

We're even allowed to be critical of people we generally agree with.

For all the brownshirts accusing others of bashing democrats-- get a life. This is America, and we have free speech. :patriot:

7. Before 9/11, there were 12 people on the govt terrorist watch list. Now there are 3 million.
Do you really believe there are 3 million terrorists in this country?

8. We're allowed to be critical
Edited on Sun Dec-09-07 11:48 AM by Jackpine Radical
as long as the criticism is ineffectual.

We're allowed to march by the hundreds of thousands, even millions, in street protests as long as the M$M can effectively minimize the numbers into "dozens."

We're allowed to scream for impeachment as long as Nancy keeps it off the table.

They have laws against effective resistance. They call it terrorism.

9. I am sure Germany said similar things about itself
in the '30s as it was wondering what was happening to its own sovereignty, as well. Alas, we too may even slip beyond what Germany had become if we do not recognize now what our historicity is.

10. That's right. And this isn't 1932.
Now that we have agreed on some basic facts: the United States of America is not the Third Reich and this is 2007 not 1932, we could, if you are interested, have a discussion about whether or not we are in the midst of a fascist shift, a transformation of a democratic republic of free citizens into a fascist corporate kleptocracy run through a corrupt duopoly for the benefit of a small group of very powerful elites.

But you seem ill-informed, so perhaps you ought to read the Two Naomis first:

Naomi Wolf's The End of America: A Letter of Warning to a Young Patriot

and

Naomi Klein's The Shock Doctrine.

Then we can talk.

19. I don't see anyone trying to stifle criticism
What I do see is a lot of meanspirited insults thrown around. What I do see is people trying to stop unfair attacks.
