LTTE: Biden is ready to lead
Monday, December 10, 2007 12:04 PM CST
BARBARA QUINN

WAVERLY --- Something strange is happening in this presidential race. There are just a few short weeks until the caucuses, yet not one of the top three candidates has managed to distance themselves from the pack. Most of my friends are still uncommitted. The media is feeding the Hillary versus Barack soap opera, yet neither one of them seem to be gaining momentum.

When I went to see Joe Biden, in Waverly, I wasn't sure what to expect. I'd heard he was wowing the crowds, and I knew his plan for Iraq was helping him gain traction in Iowa. But I wasn't prepared for what I saw. I'm not easily amazed, but he amazed me.

His command of the issues, both domestic and international, showed he's more than just the foreign policy guy in the race. His answers to questions were specific and honest, a welcome change to a typical politician's speech. He said he's not known for triangulation, and I truly believe America is ready for a president who levels with the American people.

Sen. Biden's ability to connect with individual caucus-goers also separates him from the rest of the candidates. When he answers a question, he looks directly at the person who asked it. He stays long after the event finished so he can talk to everyone.

While the top three candidates are stuck in a rut, Joe's adding new supporters every day, most recently my husband and me. The momentum in this race is building behind him. Join me in supporting Sen. Biden. He's ready to lead our country.

4. I would consider it a personal favor......
if you early caucus and primary folks can get Joe Biden to the head of the pack.

I'd like to vote for him in the Texas primary, so I'd like for him to still be in the running when it rolls around.

8. Another positive Biden anecdote from a new supporter.
It's the man's sincerity that captivates people, that and his endless knowledge of all matters concerning our country. We're not talking about just a strong candidate here. We're talking about a rare opportunity to give our country a serious lift back onto its feet. To nominate one of these other candidates over Joe Biden would just be plain recklessness. Why take a chance on Hillary or Obama when we know we have a great leader in Joe Biden? This is the chance for Democrats to show the world that we are the smarter Party.

11. You Echo My Very Feelings
In my mind, the other candidates represent a risk we cannot afford to take.

12. And, given the direction this torture/tape thing is going...
the democrats might not be on too good footing when the election rolls around...

14. Chris Matthews Agrees
He said on Hardball tonight that he is hearing a lot of talk about Biden and placed him #3 in his personal "Power Rankings" (ahead of Edwards) in probability of nomination - behind Hilary and Obama.

That was an excellent letter, btw, and I think Biden will be THE surprise on caucus night. I honestly do.

17. I watched the first edition of Hardball
but deleted the 2nd one, so I missed that. This is a big deal. No pundit has put Biden in the top three in Iowa so far.

18. I just signed up as a precinct captain, or whatever.
I'll find out when I meet with Biden for lunch on Friday. I have some tough questions to ask, and they aren't on healthcare or education. They are on Blackwater and coverups and tapping into our private lives...questions I never hear asked.

How good can it get? Woohoo!
