NYT: Hillary Deputy Campaign Manager E-Mails For Dirt On Obama (e-mail attached)
http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2007/12/10/barackemail/

If there was any question whether Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton’s campaign was concerned about the rise of Senator Barack Obama, here is a fresh example: A deputy campaign manager for Mrs. Clinton sent an e-mail yesterday, trying to find out about Mr. Obama’s background as a community organizer in Chicago.

The deputy campaign manager is Bob Nash, who served as White House personnel director in the Clinton administration. In March, Mr. Nash left his position as vice chairman of Chicago ShoreBank to join Mrs. Clinton’s campaign.
Here is the text of his e-mail, with the addresses redacted:

From: Bob Nash

1. No one ever told this guy about how ALL CAPS is shouting, I guess.
This looks like oppo research. But I agree with the original premise, this should have been done a LOOOOOOONG time ago. If this is Mister Nash's job, he should be shitcanned, unless this is an old email that somehow burped up again:

DES MOINES – Presidential campaigns have unlimited appetites for information about their rivals. They track their whereabouts, they study their records and they obsessively follow nearly every movement. By this point in the race, though, it would seem a candidate’s work history would have already been sufficiently combed through.

Apparently not. ...

5. To be fair
An email like that looks like it was sent from a phone.

If it was sent by a person with a normal keyboard at a desk, then we have some computer literacy issues.

12. There may be about 12 of us left who don't.
There are so many people who type that way on phones / blackberries that you get used to it. I drive my friends crazy because if I do send a text message, it is perfectly punctuated and capitalized. Therefore my responses are a little slower than they'd like.

19. Big deal! I don't see a big deal with Hillary's people looking for stuff and I don't see the big
deal in the link either. I read about it earlier on Kos

7. How is this digging for dirt?
digging for information, I'd buy, but digging for "dirt" seems to be editorializing.

11. I agree
and oppo research is pretty par for the course for every single candidate.

In this case, the OP lifted the term digging for "dirt" directly from noted Clinton hater Matt Drudge, how has this headlined on his site with similar wording. (The actual NY times piece this refers to is titled(Obama, Under the Clinton Microscope")

28. It isn't opposition research
It asks for information that is almost certainly in the public record now. Obama wrote a book and there are probably plenty of details there.

Opposition research would want to know if Obama had any dissatisfied former girlfriends from those days, if he hung out with drug dealers, etc.

Why does somebody say hi when conducting opposition research and why do they send an E-mail to the campaign they are targeting asking for information?

Something is up with this one.

Fascinating.

14. This person was looking for information. No reason to call it dirt
If in that information "dirt' had been found, than arguably he had used it.

24. Wow, was this guy drunk when he wrote this email? I feel like calling him up tomorrow just to ask.
Hopefully, this idiot represents the overall caliber of Clinton campaign talent. Between this and the swift boating madrassa emails, it look as if
Hillaryworld is running scared and desperate of Obama.
