So Bill, Chelsea, and Hillary's mom are supposed to offset Oprah?
Edited on Tue Dec-11-07 12:18 AM by Hailtothechimp
Sorry, but I'm not buying it.

A person's husband, child, and mother are SUPPOSED to endorse and campaign for them.

Oprah isn't in that category. She can do whatever she likes.

He has had his effect.

2. What, it's a contest? Perhaps it's time for Streisand to do a few concerts, is that what you'd like
perhaps?

Why the fuck do you think this is a CONTEST? How childish.

It is absurd to look at 'celebrity endorsements' like they're badges of honor.

No wonder America gets such lame candidates lately.

John Edwards had better get with the program and find himself someone who's a big draw for those who need their platforms spoon-fed to them...

3. I don't think they were trying to offset Oprah
Edited on Tue Dec-11-07 12:27 AM by ElizabethDC
I think they knew that that would be impossible, so they brought Chelsea (who otherwise would have been a much bigger story) and Mrs. Rodham, both of whom are known to be press shy, in on a weekend where they could be eased in and make a smaller splash. (Personally, I think they should have debuted Chelsea at a time when she could make a bigger impact, but I'm not surprised that she wanted to jump in at a time that was relatively under the radar.)

As for Bill, this isn't exactly the first time he's been on the trail for Hillary - he's been speaking and fundraising on her behalf for months.

21. I'm sure Iowan's eyes were opened having Hillary's generational women supporting her
Hillary's family support demonstrated a down to earth family oriented persona. After all, if Hlllary wins the presidency, these beautiful ladies will be regular visitors to the WH.. Hillary mentioned her Mom lives with her and Bill at their family homestead and I imagine Mrs Rodham will be moving in at 1600 Pennsy as well.

The offset of the women in Hillary's family touring Iowa with her was the perfect foil to the glitz of the Oprah Circus..well done!

and this is one reason i don't 100 percent accept the "but he is their dad" when it comes to cases such as Bush daughters supporting him.

12. well
Oprah's resources don't really come into play, do they? She can contribute $4,600 to Obama.

Clinton's resources aren't "meager" by any definition.

9. It makes one wonder why Oprah is really supporting Obama
and not involved herself as she said in other elections. She cannot honestly believe he is the most qualified. The one with more experience. The one knowledgeable in foreign relations. The one more informed on domestic issues. The one that has the aptitude and attitude for the position.

Could it be Oprah believes he is the one black that has a chance to be elected president? If that is the case then Oprah is telling us all to vote for Obama for the simple reason he is black.Oprah knows that is racist and just plain stupid.

I have a feeling that before the end of the year the press will turn its attention to find the stuff out on Obama just like they are doing Huckebee now. If the press gives Obama a free pass on this then the press is trying to hand us another george bush, and sell us on the idea that Bush did not need to be the smartest man in the room, and see what we have now...

One wonders why Oprah really endorsed Obama?

13. I don't wonder
at all. She finds him inspiring.

Frank Sinatra supported JFK - and Sinatra wasn't exactly known as a liberal activist. Some politicians resonate with people.

I find this whole questioning of motives to be petty.

18. Ya know, how can you 'honestly' know what Oprah believes?
I like Obama and posts like yours solidify my stand. How can you presume what or who people like?

Obama offers a change from what we've been witnessing for years. For me, it has nothing to do with his color and a whole lot to do with his attitude. If you have to boil it down to race, you need to take a second look.

Oprah is a very smart woman. Did you ever consider she's as tired of the status quo as I am, worried for our country, and sees Obama as the man who is smart enough to fix it? For you to denigrate her and Obama is disgusting, and you've been doing it for awhile.

We 'get' who you like. Your vitriol isn't helping, and makes you seem like a dim bulb. IMO.

14. Tomorrow's NYT poll........
The poll confirmed that former President Bill Clinton was an effective campaign weapon for his wife. Forty-four percent of Democratic voters say Mr. Clinton’s involvement will make them more likely to support her. In fact, about as many of Mrs. Clinton’s backers say they are supporting her because of her husband as say they are supporting her because of her own experience.

The poll found that just 1 percent said they might be swayed by the involvement of Oprah Winfrey, who has been campaigning for Mr. Obama in Iowa, South Carolina and New Hampshire the last three days, drawing huge crowds and allowing his campaign to identify new supporters.

The nationwide telephone poll, of 1,028 voters, was taken from last Wednesday through Sunday and has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus three percentage points. Within that group, 266 respondents identified themselves as likely Republican voters, and 417 as likely Democratic voters; the margin of sampling error among the Democrats is five percentage points, and among the Republicans six percentage points.

More than anything else, the poll underlines sharp differences between the Republican and Democratic electorate in how each views its candidates. Democratic voters, on the whole, see their candidates considerably more favorably than Republicans see theirs.

Mrs. Clinton is viewed favorably by 68 percent of Democrats, followed by Mr. Obama, viewed favorably by 54 percent. Mr. Edwards is viewed favorably by 36 percent.

Much more at link.......

28. Well, not everybody bought into the Oprah-Obama circus.
Some people do have a mind of their own and won't be dissuaded from voting for their chosen candidate by some over-hyped celebrity and her anointed one.

I actually enjoyed seeing Chelsea campaigning for her mom once again and Mrs. Rodham who hardly ever appears in public events with her daughter. It was heart warming to see all three generations together. It's nice to see a candidate's family, it reflects where they came from and who they are as people.
