WASHINGTON - U.S. Rep. Betty McCollum is endorsing Barack Obama for president, citing his consistent opposition to the Iraq war.

The Minnesota Democrat says Obama will provide the leadership to make a more secure world.

She says in a prepared statement that Obama can unite the American people to confront the serious challenges facing our nation, especially ending the war in Iraq.

Two other Democratic congresswomen endorsed Obama earlier this week. They are Barbara Lee of California and Carol Shea-Porter of New Hampshire.

Obama is trying to make inroads against rival Hillary Rodham Clinton among women voters in the Democratic primary.

Obama has also picked up endorsements from U.S. Rep. Keith Ellison, Minnesota's first black federal lawmaker, and Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak.
