Going the Extra Mile for Edwards (A great story)

Edwards supporter makes daily 6.1-mile trek to rally voters

NEW LONDON -- It was a touch after 3 p.m. Monday and Carrie Duncan had just finished another day on the job.

Now she was ready to go the extra mile for John Edwards.

Make that 6.1 miles.

Duncan, a 47-year-old food service employee for the New London School District, is walking home each work day until the Iowa caucuses carrying a sign for her favorite presidential candidate.

That might not seem like a big deal -- except she lives near Lowell.

"Every step I take is for the electability of John Edwards and for every American," she said.

From a side door at the school, Duncan headed south and west over slushy streets. The temperature was buried in the mid-20s and she puffed out steam.

She was wearing royal blue running tights, red athletic shorts advertising Bradley University and a triple layer of sweatshirts with royal blue on top.
