Hypothetical question for Friday night: If Clark had run this time, how would he be doing in Iowa?
Clark has admitted that not campaigning in Iowa in 04' was the biggest mistake of his campaign. What if he were traveling around Iowa speaking to voters now?

He wanted to. He talked about it when I heard him speak at Stanford over the summer and you could really see the fire in his eyes. He walked the aisles like someone who really wanted the support to run, and I thanked him for all he's done for the country when I shook his hand.

But, he just kept saying when asked he was "still trying to find a way" (to run) and in the end endorsed Hillary.

If Clark were running now, how do you think he would be doing and why?

1. It would all depend on how much money he'd been able to raise
and whether his campaign managers were morons like the last bunch. So I really have no idea.

2. He'd be the crazy guy that almost started WWIII
and Billy Shaheen would be resigning for smearing him. Don't doubt it for one second.

3. I think he would be doing fine
He connects extremely well with people in groups like Town Hall meetings and house parties, Iowa would have been ideal for him. But I have to say I'm really not up for having this type of hypothetcal discussion tonight. Maybe others are.

4. Fuck! why not keep Clark out of the speculation game? He ain't running! but there's enough folks
who are without you adding to the list folks who have already clearly stated they aren't running.

Why speculate about something that didn't happen and isn't gonna happen as opposed to something that's just about to happen and which we have plenty of information that is real to discuss in making those speculation?

Well, anyways, carry on! :eyes:

6. Is speculation about something that's about to happen really any more significant?
Edited on Fri Dec-14-07 10:01 PM by calteacherguy
It's still just speculation, no?

The only thing real is the present, not what may happen two weeks from now, or what could have happened.

This is no more idle speculation than most of the other threads posted here.

Which reminds me....perhaps I'm spending too much time here again.

9. I find that there is a difference between speculating about something
that's not gonna happen and something that is.

In 2 weeks, we'll know what speculations were correct in reference to those running.

In 500 years, we still will not know anymore than we do today on something that won't happen.

Is that clear?

10. There is a difference, but it's not really any more real.

Why does it matter if speculation is correct or not? What's the point of speculation, except for entertainment and diversion?

5. I think he'd be doing great. If you really liked Clark
why don't you endorse Hillary and then maybe we could have him for a VP and help this country find it's way? Only Biden and Richardson could help. All the others need lots of help and guidance and are neophytes when it comes to getting us out of the middle East and running a war which Bush will probably get us into before he leaves office. I really wouldn't put it past him...he's that vicious and vengeful. His legacy is in the hopper so why not go out in style and go down in history in flames.

7. I considered doing that.
Right after he endorsed Hillary. But after serious consideration, I realized I could not support Hillary. And I do believe Obama brings to the table what the country and the world need most right now. All Presidents have advisors around them. What's most important is to have good advisors and a President who listens to a wide range of views. I have confidence in Obama's big ears.

8. I hope you're right! But I still wish Clark was the one guiding our candidate.
I think the whole world would be grateful to have the US back in the Clinton/Clark hands. Not many people know Obama.

13. As a Clark admirer and supporter in 04, I agree that Clark would help the Clinton ticket
However, I am disappointed in his choice nonetheless. I do understand loyalty, however, and know how close he is to the Clintons and has been.

I think Clark would be doing well if he were running. He stands so high over all of the present candidates I am really sad he is not running. However, the media would probably ignore him just like they did in 04.

Even though Clark has endorsed Hillary, if Obama gets the nomination it would still be likely for Clark to be Obama's VP. It could be seen as a unity thing. Beyond that, either Clark....or Biden....would be perfect VPs for Obama. Their age, experience and foreign policy savvy would greatly balance the ticket.

So, I would say Clark played it safe by supporting Hillary. He still would be in the mix for vp with Obama.
