A letter we sent off this morning to Senator Reid....who's with me?
http://reid.senate.gov/contact/email_form.cfmDear Senator:
We are writing you to express our total disgust with you and your colleagues over extending the FISA bill in its present form. As if that is not bad enough to give the telecommunications companies immunity for violating our bill of rights is totally outrageous.
Senator it is time to stand up and show some leadership. It is long past time Bush, Cheney and the rest of the neo-cons are challenged and exposed for what they are. This president and vice president took oaths to uphold the U.S. Constitution. They have violated those oaths again and again. We the people voted the Democrats into power in 2006 because we wanted change and someone to stand up against the grab for unchecked power of this rogue administration. With all due respect you have become part of the problem by going along.
We know about the filibuster and the veto, but that doesn't sway us. Show some back bone and hold the Senate in session until the dome of the capitol crumbles and falls, but do not show fear. Force this president to veto legislation on FISA, war funding and other bills until his pen runs out of ink. Stop backing down, stand tall, show leadership and don't act out of political fear. We the people are right there with you, but right now you are not with us.
Finally, true leadership isn't displayed when the majority (in this case, the Senate) is with you; but rather when your cause is just and right and you stand-alone against the tyranny of the majority. NOW IS THE TIME TO STAND AGAINST THE TYRANNY.
